Ouch... that's REALLY bad for Nvidia, although really good for ATI/AMD. I know a few people with Macbook Pro's who might be using either the G84 or G86, I'd better point them to the news article.

Indeed, anything nVidia + Inquirer is bound to have lavishing volumes of FUD attached. As much as I dislike nVidia, I wouldn't go printing some of the nonsense they do on a whim. Any other more reliable sources covering this?

Theres a couple of other articles but they're all just copying the Inquirer. I'd treat it with scepticism.

Remember that a lot of pre-built PCs like Dells and HPs used the 8600 and 8400 a lot; I wouldn't be surprized if the total numbers of 8600 cards sold was actually higher than 8800.

Actually, that's very much the case. The number of 'high end' GPUs sold is rather trivial compared those low to mid range GPUs pushed out with OEM computers, many of which even happily run with IGPs.

Fair enough, still thought it was worth the quip. Reading Hexus I sometimes get the feeling that people hardly ever get graphics cards worth less than £100.

wow, check out the dell vostro business pcs, all of them come with 8400 or 8600 and only the most expensive ones have upgrade options to 8800. a lot of businesses may be in for a rough ride...
