well, after reading increasing numbers of reports about dying macbook pro displays and issues related its fair to say it was on the way;

now its official, I wonder what next.

Ouch... that's REALLY bad for Nvidia, although really good for ATI/AMD. I know a few people with Macbook Pro's who might be using either the G84 or G86, I'd better point them to the news article.
Thanks for the notice.
The article suggests that it might not be contained to these two chips. That may be typical L'Inq scaremongering though.
true but it would explain a great deal though

Theres a couple of other articles but they're all just copying the Inquirer. I'd treat it with scepticism.

I guess it's lucky the 8-series midrange desktop parts sucked so much or they might have sold a lot more of them.
Remember that a lot of pre-built PCs like Dells and HPs used the 8600 and 8400 a lot; I wouldn't be surprized if the total numbers of 8600 cards sold was actually higher than 8800.
Fair enough, still thought it was worth the quip. Reading Hexus I sometimes get the feeling that people hardly ever get graphics cards worth less than £100.
Looks like there's a hexus article on this now, slightly more conservative than the Inquirer one, but it still suggests this goes further than HP...
wow, check out the dell vostro business pcs, all of them come with 8400 or 8600 and only the most expensive ones have upgrade options to 8800. a lot of businesses may be in for a rough ride...
well, time will tell on what happens from now
