The fan on the Xigmatek cooler still isn't spinning up... should I be concerned?
thanks
Have fun with Vista64
Also, how big should my Vista install partition be? Will 50GB be enough for the OS or should I go a bit bigger?
thanks
looking at the Microsoft site, they recommend 40GB with at least 15GB of free space... so a 50GB partition should be enough?
cheers
as sleepyhead says, the tone is prolly because the Fan is spinning below the required minimum amount set in the BIOS (theres normally an option "to sound alarm when fan speed drops below 800rpm" etc)
but i would have thought it should be spinning.....
does it start spinning if you give it a nudge? (one of my Y/L's doesn't like spinning and i have to tap it to get it going sometimes )
doesn't start spinning if I manually spin it first... it does have two case fans right next to it (one on the top of the case and one on the back), they're spinning along fine, so maybe they're doing a sufficient job of cooling the HSF?
It might make sense that it's beeping from that, in the uGuru utility I think it's defaulted at 300 RPM before it starts to beep. Go into the BIOS, then into the uGuru Utility. Switch to the "Abit EQ" tab and go into the fan monitoring and one for the CPU should have a * in the "Beep" column, with a low limit of "300 RPM". Just move to the column and press the space button to take it off.
I would check the fan however, it should be spinning up by now. Check the temperatures from the BIOS in the uGuru Utility and under the temperature options.
it could be that the fan in the cooler is borked , try plugging a different fan into the sys fan header and seeing if it spins up...
OK... Vista is installed and seems to be working fine
Still can't get rid of this blingin beep though... The fan on the Xigmatek spins on startup (for about 5-10 secs or so) and then stops (right after the alarm starts its racket.)
I've gone into fan controls in the uGuru and the CPU fan is set at a 'Low Limit' of 300RPM... there's no reading for the CPU fan speed (says N/A) which makes sense seeing as it ain't spinning?
Keeping an eye on temp and the CPU is currently sitting at 28C idle, which is fine right? I think the other two case fans are doing a fine job of cooling the S1283...
Seems weird that it spins up at startup, but then stops? ideas?
cheers
I would say that it's not spining because it doesn't need too, 28C is rather low. What program did you use to check the temperatures?
To get rid of the beeping, go back into the uGuru Utility, go back into the part that shows you the Low Limit of 300RPM and remove the * from the Beep column next to the CPU temperatures. That should stop the beeping... hopefully :)
Run A Stress Test With Orthos, And See If The Fan Spins Up Once The Temps Rise A little Bit....
because 28c is nice and low....
The LCD readout on the mobo shows 75 - this is 'Detect & install all IDE devices: HDD, LS120, ZIP, CDROM...'
I think all my devices are SATA not IDE (I only have a DVD-RW and one HD at the moment), so why's this showing I wonder?
Hmmm... just realised I can't connect my new PC to the internet, it doesn't have a ethernet plug on the motherboard... I just assumed it would!
So I guess I need to buy a card for this? What would you suggest?
Doh... there is one,it was just covered by a metal flappy thing off the I/O panel
