yup i double checked, ive pressed eject just incase and it does eject the correct drive. Is it an issue that im using a dvi to hdmi cable? hdmi for the tv and dvi to the card?
installing ubuntu again as it works on there apprently so will hope this one works.
Hicks before you take it back. Are you using an ATI graphics card?
If so get the latest drivers to fix the problem, i used an X1600 with cat 8.4 worked perfectly, cat 8.5 with 3850 no go, cat 8.6 with 3850 success
so try the latest catalyst (or nvidia) drivers and that might sort your problems out

try it on a different PC too...
i went intoday and couldnt get a refund , got a brand new drive though instead of the second hand one i bought, some how they magically made some new drives instore(they said they wont have any in for ever cos its EOL). Still no luck here, i tried on my dads with windows vista and it reconises the drive and hd-dvd (it has 2.5UDF) but it refuses to play it and the software just dies if i use power dvd, its the same issue i have on xp now that ive got the 2.5udf driver. Anyone else got it on pc working?
i currently have the 175.19 drivers after the 1.77 gave me artifacts on masseffect(found it was mainly temps now lol). Will reinstall 177 drivers just to check.
What software do you guys recommend for playing it? i hear power dvd 7.3 ultra is the main one but i cant find a trial for it .
It just worked for me, first time I tried, without problems... I am clueless why its not working for you... can you see the disc content with the UDF driver?
Got it working on 2 machines, XP home and XP pro. Using PowerDVD 7.3 too...
There are some guides online for playing HD-DVDs in media player classic... Google for them, maybe you can get it working with that (although you will need AnyDVD iirc)..

got anydvd hd(trial lol). i downloaded trial for powerdvd8 and put the hd-dvd back in but it just closes itself when it tries to play it, i downloaded version 7 but remembered i needed 7.3 so just asked a mate and he has one , gunna get him to give it to me in a few hours though. Will tery media player classic.
after adding the codec etc i still get this error with mpc,
any idea?
pic to small sorry b ut it says cannot find dvd directory even though i told it to play the hd-dvd disk from the drive >.<.
Media player classic is not easy to set up for HD-DVD... I tried and gave up... I would try 7.3 first...

well got powerdvd 7.3 dropped off by my mate, so far the dvd has loaded . Thanks for the help sim and others.
edit: been watching superman returns and tbh it doesnt look much better than SD, how can i tell its actually being displayed in HD, it could just be scaled to 480i instead of 720 that i can have on htis monitor. The overall video seems grainy, i dont have it on SD so i cant really compare but i thought it was ment to be really clear?
Superman returns is a terrible film to check out HD image quality. It has the post-processing grain added which makes the picture look bad (Miami Vice has done the same, so don't expect miracle PQ from that either)
Transformers, Serenity, King Kong and Batman Begins are pretty close to reference material if you want to see what difference HD makes.
Not sure how much a 22" screen will limit you to seeing the difference either. Most say that 37"+ is where HD starts to shine.
