Aye sorry that was probably a poor choice of words on my part, the VX series are certainly not bad, I just heard they were not as good as the HX when it comes to regulating voltage/rail stability but only slightly and as you say nothing to loose sleep over. I can't remember where I read that, it might have been over at SPCR but I can't be certain.

    Re: which psu ?

corsair makes really excellent PSU's although they can be rather expensive.

Another option would be the gigabyte odin pro modular PSU, excellent rails and very quiet as well.
Head over to silentpcreview under their PSU section for a list of more recommended PSUs for your money.

    Re: which psu ?

Was looking at changing my Hiper PSU as starting to play up BUT considering a £50 budget I am looking at either the Gigabyte ODIN pro (GE-M550A-D1) 550W (£49) or Corsair VX550w (£59).

From the small info on the Gigabyte it would be my preferred choice (incl. modular design) but the Corsair has 5 year warranty as opposed to 3 years with the Gigabyte.

    Decisions, decisions...

    Re: which psu ?

bought hiper and found them pretty noisy and the pc occassionally jittered ... bought a 550w corsair and in addition to being now rock stable its now super quiet

    Re: which psu ?

    Hi

I have found the Hiper voltages to be on the very upper limit of ATX spec on my PSU and like you said, not quiet. However, I think I shall go for the Gigabyte 550W as it has 85% efficiency and very very stable voltages across different loads not to mention modular and a tenner cheaper.

    Cheers for the reply.

    Re: which psu ?

If you're not price sensitive, Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro series is fantastic. Modular cabling to improve airflow, and even better, very high efficiency - up to 88%. Even compared to other high efficiency PSUs ~82%, that's still one third less heat generation.

Corsair's PSU are also good, and have wider availability.

    Re: which psu ?

Thanks but £90ish just a bit too pricey for me. I prefer modular too so air-dusting outside is easier to perform (not disconnecting the devices but simply remove modular connectors at source )

The review of the ODIN Pro can be found here for anyone else considering a PSU purchase.

    Re: which psu ?

If I were you, I would get the HX520, I used the 620 version in a clients PC, and its so much more than was needed, but i didnt really think it true....
Great quality, tested at higher temps than most manufacturures, and so less likely to fail while being used, as you would have to have it at really high temps, (over 50 degrees) for it to fail, and not be covered by warranty.....

    Just me...........

    Re: which psu ?

Thanks for the input (pun intended )

I know what you are saying about Corsair but what I found is that the ODIN Pro is made by CWT, same OEM that supplies PSUs to Corsair (VX550 for example).

Everything comes down to money. Would like to get the HX520 but an extra £20...
