pc pre builders feel the pinch

seems the "credit crunch" seems to be hitting the pre-build pc builders, my local shop closed and my mates local pc shot closed also due to this same problem.

Also seems online companys which looked extreamly solid now closing, which worring for anyone thinking of pre-building pc..example

    http://www.vadim.co.uk/articles/90/V...ceased_trading

kinda worrying when you get a pc, then find company gone out of the barrel.

Anyone found anyothers problems or issues that people should look to aviod.

I don't want to cause any sort of offense here but places like Scan sell so cheap that builders simply can't compete like they once did.

and there's also a lot of people like me, who only upgrade when their PC completely breaks or are happy when it actually runs something and don't care about the speed of it..

Then you get companies like PC World selling "brand new" PC's for £200 even though they are horribly bad spec-wise. But it's people who aren't in the know will just see the worlds "PC" and "£200" and assume they got bargain.

Re: pc pre builders feel the pinch

The credit crunch is hitting alot of industries. Something like 40% job losses in the building trade in my area so far this year. The pre-built PC trade seems to depend heavily on buying on credit, so the credit crunch is always going to hit heavily there, particularly if their bisiness model is not all that robust. Great PCs, weak business model it seems. I'm guessing the margins must be quite low. Also, if you're spending 50% more on fuel and food you've got less cash to spend on buying a new PC.
