A rather annoying problem
OK,
I have had my system for about 6 months and just recently noticed that my C hard disk space is running out. I couldn't understand this because i install all my games and movies on a large D 320Gb hard drive. I only have my operating system on my C drive which is an 80GB. For some reason though, whenever i put something on my D drive, it automatically goes onto my c drive as well! Is there any way i can solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Pompalomp
Re: A rather annoying problem
Delete it off the C drive?
Re: A rather annoying problem
Even when you install to another drive - some stuff still goes into the windows folders - although I'm not syaing that it isn't happening, I can't think why an application would install in both places.
I do the same as you and install programs to d:\program files but the C drive still slowly fills up.
Re: A rather annoying problem
Ok i think i found the problem, it seems that on my desktop i have a folder called programs in which contains 12.4Gb of data, so i am going to try and move it to the D drive.
Re: A rather annoying problem
No, you should leave it where it is otherwise windows won't know where to find your programs.
Re: A rather annoying problem
Er... is it just called "Programs" ? Why is it on your desktop, did you install things there? Have a look in the folder and see what it contains.
Re: A rather annoying problem
Use NTFS folder mounting instead of changing install paths to a different letter. There's a guide somewhere, I'm pretty sure it's linked here somewhere in this forum (HEXUS.hardware).
Re: A rather annoying problem
Inside the folder it was mainly shortcuts for games and several other programs and stuff
Re: A rather annoying problem
See what happens, you can always move it back.
Re: A rather annoying problem
Just change the folder name to "Programsss" or something, save moving it. If it messes everything up just change the name back to what it was.
Re: A rather annoying problem
12.4 gb of shortcuts? I think somehow you have been installing stuff to this folder on your desktop. Look what is installed in there and then unistall those applications and delete the folder. Then you can try to install them on your 320gb drive, ie in D:\programs Only thing is some applications like to be on the c: drive and won't install anywhwere else.
Re: A rather annoying problem
Ok, moved it to the D folder and deleted the original. I then created a shortcut on my desktop to the folder and everything seems ok.
