Still having problems...

Awhile ago I had a problem with my RAM (2x2GB OCZ Platinum / DDR2 / PC26400)

The PC just wont boot when they are both in.. Ive recently had them RMA'd, but I have now ruled out that it wasnt the modules fault as they both boot fine when they are on their own, its just when theyre together, the PC sounds fine, just theres no picture on screen, the monitor doesnt trigger on...

I have updated my motherboard (Abit IP-35) BIOS.
Ive tried both sticks of RAM in all 4 DDR2 slots.
Ive increased the DDR2 voltage upto 2.05v!

The only way I have managed to get it working with 4GB is to hot-boot...and I cant do that all the time :/


Anther thing I thought of, which is problem nothing to do with it, it my GPU (ASUS EN8800GT 512MB).. seen as my moniter is plugged directly into that, I was wondering if, when I have both RAM modules in, maybe the GPU wasnt getting enough juice?
Any help would be great.

What power supply have you got?
have you tired both sticks in each of the slots
Try bumping it right up to 2.1 which is its actual rating i believe. Also check around all ther bios settings to make sure there isnt any 2GB restrictions on or anything.

One stick will work by itself, but the two of them in any configuration in the board will not work, and neither will upping the voltage then putting the other stick in. It's the EXACT same problem I had with my Abit IP35 and some OCZ Crossfire DDR2 PC2-6400. The board doesn't support the RAM properly, I would send your OCZ RAM back and mark it as incompatable and get some different RAM, such as Geil / Corsair which work fine.

OCZ is brilliant RAM, but the board doesn't like it that much.

i have an IP35 and OCZ and it works perfectly fine

Some models of OCZ do work, some don't. The 2GB of OCZ in my dads machine works fine in my IP35, however the 2GB of OCZ ATI Certified stuff I got ended up giving me the exact same problems that the OP is describing. He's using Platinum and not ATI Certified stuff but given what he's describing and the problems I got, I'm going to say it's the same problem that I had and the motherboard is just rejecting the RAM.

Memtest 86+ will give your memory a good work out - although the machine has to pass post before it can boot off the CDROM.

Is it passing post and failing on the windows initialisation - ior is it truly failing to boot and not getting as far as the hard drive bootloader?

If both sticks work fine alone then there is a possability that the motherboard is a bit dodgy, i guess the only way to know for sure is to try different ram on the motherboard.

Well when i turn it on, the pc sounds normal, fans, hard drive etc... its just the screen wont turn on (light stays orange rather than blue)

Ebay it. Or sell it on hexus, seeing as apparently it is not faulty there is no reason it won't work perfetcly on a different chipset.
