    Cool Mobile Barton's

I don't know if anyone hear has heard this but the mobile Barton's (2500+) are unlocked and will work in socket A motherboards... the amazing part is that they will run at stock voltage of 1.25/1.45 (hearing conflicting reports) and people are getting amazing overcocks on them... it seems that getting 2.5 ghz on air is common. I seriously considering getting one even though my current Barton is unlocked... I figure I have to push my current system to the limit until I can warrant an upgrade to AMD64. But just to recap.... MOBILE BARTONS & LOW VOLTAGES = HIGH OVERCLOCKS.

Due to the low voltage requirements of mobile processors (AMD and Intel), you'll find that the silicon comes from the middle of the wafer during manufacturing. The creame de la creame so to speak. Basically, you'll find the best yields going to mobile chips. The intel mobiles default to 1.3v as opposed to 1.5v for the desktop versions. This gives you a massive head way voltage wise.

i just read about this and was gonna make a thread !!

there 1.46 (0.2 less than dtop) so u can get 0.2 volt up no prob and run like a normal, increase some more with good cooling and your the daddy

these have reported to be going fast as HELL, quite a lot are doing 2.7 GHZ and one in a prommie OVER 3GHZ !!

ok so now to buy one - is there any special requirements do you know ? im sure they work in any old socket a motherboard, but voltage change needs to be handy, anything else?

You'll have to find one first - only place I've seen one is CPUcity - on 'preorder' for £69.

Now, do I cancel my komplett order for a plain 2500 & wait patiently for the mobiles to come into stock? Only problem is I'm not very good at the old patience...

Check out the The Inquirer article!!

    Sounds tasty.

Edit: I assume these overclcocks have raised the FSB wildly?? Is it possible to raise the FSB from 133 to 200?

Edit2: Check out Newegg's ratings page for details of overclocks.

But just remember that this is a "mobile" processor, so it may not just drop in and run.
What do they mean? Are they talking about some boards not supporting the low voltages?

I AM gonna order one of these next Wednesday when I get paid. Anyone know how long it'll be before CPUCity send them out?

I think the only thing that you have to be sure of is that your board will support the low voltages that the processor requires stock... and you get the model that fits socket A motherboards as apparently there is another variant that does not.

I quite honestly don't know... I would suspect it will, I suspect most relatively new mobo's will but I don't know for sure.

I had a Mobile Xp2400+ (barton core) many months ago and it did 2.3Ghz on 1.5V and 2.4Ghz on 1.7v (100% stable). But it crapped out (PC would reboot part way into windows) if pushing the volts past 1.8v so I couldn't get 2.5Ghz out of it because of that. Sold it on Ebay and got a pathetic £50 for it, and wished I'd kept the damn thing.

That "voltage ceiling" could well be the achillies heel with these.

    Cheers,

    MM

Even still, 2.3 ghz at 1.5 volts rock solid... if nothing else you'll run much cooler and at the same performance as you do currently.
