    22" monitor

    Hi Guys,

Im looking to buy a new monitor, mostly for gaming, but i also do photography as well.

Ive been looking at the Samsung SM-2232BW and SM-2232CW and have read mixed reviews.

I understand the controversy with the 2232BW and its various panels which is why i was considering the 2232CW (managed to find it at a similar price to the BW) but have also read negative comments about its light bleed and non consistent colours.

Currently I am using a Samsung syncmaster 19" crt, so whatever i get is going to be an improvement but i figured if im going to spend this much money, i need to do my research and ask some questions

Any advice you guys could give me would be appreciated, thankyou in advance!

    Cheers!

    Re: 22" monitor

I dunno....personally, I have a Samsung SM 226bw, and love it (got an S-Panel one! ). I'm not too familiar with either one you're mentioning, and it seems my my monitor model is no longer being sold.

Personally, if at all possible, I'd try to see each in person at a store. This way, you might also see something you like better than either of those (I didn't know of the SM 2232gw until after I bought my 226bw...too bad too, because the 2232gw is a bweautiful glossy-screen monitor).

    Re: 22" monitor

With the panel lottery system that samsung forces us buyers to go through, it would be safer to buy other brands.
Try the viewsonic vx2255wmb or the iiyama prolite 2201-b1

    Re: 22" monitor

I'm getting an Acer P223W. Found it cheapest at Argos. (would link to it but I apprarently dont have enough posts yet ) My dad has the Samsung 2232BW. It looks really nice (when off) really nice gloss black "pebble" and when on it blows my LG out of the water, colours are fantastic, and ghosting, what ghosting. 2ms response time. It is a really nice monitor, one reason why i feel the need to upgrade mine!

You actually found one? When I looked a few days ago (just for fun), I didn't see them listed on NewEgg or Samsung's website anymore (except for driver downloads). I figured they had been discontinued in favor of newer models, but I might have been wrong.

There's a way to check the serial number on your panel (by actually opening the monitor and looking at the actual panel's serial number, not the monitor's) to see which panel you got (either S-panel, which is the good one, or one of the others). I don't have a link handy anymore (deleted it after checking my 226bw), but it can be found on Google. Also, as far as I know, all the later 226bw monitors had S-panels anyways; I believe the lower quality ones only had a limited run when demand was high, but I may be wrong. ^_^

Out of curiosity, where did you find your 226bw and how much was it?

    Re: 22" monitor

You can find the 226BW in pretty much any UK based etailer, maybe we are a bit behind the USA and it hasn't been discontinued here yet.

Yeah you can get them at lots of places here in the uk.

I got mine from scan for £188, which i think is a good price.
