Re: pc for £500 to run softimage xsi
that looks like a pretty good list, however, there are a few things you need to change:
-Get a power supply with a decent brand name. The cheap ones are notorious for blowing, sometimes damaging other expensive components, i.e. graphics card.
Id recommend a corsair hx520 or anything made by coolermaster, seasonic, etc, im sure someone else will have some recommendations
-get some decent memory, im sure you could get a corsair, or crucial equivalent to that super talent memory for a similar price, and ive never heard of super talent before (maybe thats just me)
-consider getting a hd4850 instead of a 9800gtx. There has been a big fuss about these two cards in the last few weeks, and prices have been dropping significantly. I advise you read some reviews to decide for yourself, although i bet most people here will tell you to get a hd4850

oh, and if your buying from scan, and it looks like you are, then dont forget to register your hexus account for free shipping
Re: pc for £500 to run softimage xsi
and you might want to look at some different cases. I know thats just preference, but you could get more for your money. The antec 300 is supposed to be a decent cheap case, with good cable management etc, but if you just want to save money then my cheap ass case is excellent for the money, a sharkoon rebel 9 economy: i dont have any cuts, and everything is pretty standard screw mounts (nothing to fall apart, lol), and its only £25. (but you need to buy some fans, but cheap a couple of £2 ones will do if it doesnt need to be silent, and if it does you'll have to replace other cases fans anyway)
Although you can disregard all of this if you really like that case
Re: pc for £500 to run softimage xsi
You deffinatly need a decent PSU, that one is awful and scan shouldn't really sell them tut!!
The corsair as mentioned is a great PSU and more than enough power for your system.
Everything else looks ok if you are trying to stick to a low budget. Not idea about the case, cooling wise the Antec 300 would be nice for £35.

To add to this, if your going to register a Hexus account with SCAN, you need 20 non spam posts to be eligible.

Re: pc for £500 to run softimage xsi
Try and go for a Q6700 if you can afford it and if you wont be overclocking?
The price difference isnt that big and you should make use of the extra power if your running stock
