Question Vista reinstall - Partitioning advice

Im rebuilding my work laptop and going from 80gb to 320gb

Now currently out of the 74.5GB, i only have 19GB free

I want to run a few VMs, hence the upgrade

So im thinking, as this is vista business x64, 45GB OS and the rest for Data, move my documents, music etc.. to the larger partition and host my VMs on it.

is 45GB going to be enough with applications installed, Office 2007 Enterprise, Project, Visio etc.?

    Thanks

Re: Vista reinstall - Partitioning advice

I'd still go with about 80GB. It's better to have a bit play with the space than find you run out quickly. Windows Vista is larger than XP also - and my current system drive is 65GB full from 80GB and I only have one game installed (which comes to about 7GB) the rest is things like Office and other applications, which is on XP. There's no "stuff" on my C drive either such as tv shows or music, it's on my storage drives.

I guess I'm just giving an example of how fast space can run out, and it's better to give yourself a bit of room to breath so to speak.

Re: Vista reinstall - Partitioning advice

I have a 60 gig partition for my vista. After installing most of the essential programs(office, media players, IM,photoshop) I have 20 gig remaining.

Taking that into consideration, 40 gig is about the size of a basic vista installation after installing necessary programs. This should be enough for you to estimate how much space u need for your C: partition
