Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
I've recently got a new build and was using a Gigabyte board with the P31 chipset.
However, there was something wrong with it as it would not boot with all of my RAM (4GB) inserted even though it claimed to support 4GB. As a result, I have had to change motherboard, which meant taking my old Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro off the old board and replacing it.
Even more recently, the temps were getting surprisingly high, even at idle and I was entering between 37-45c range...
Thinking that I'd applied to much silver grease or something (there was a bottle and a brush, I think I was a little over zealous with the novelty of this xD) I removed the HSF again. Tried to put it back however, and the little plasticy feet on the bottom of it seem damaged (D: ) and I'm now having to run on the stock cooler (which goes over the 65c threshold I set myself at load even at stock speeds D: ).
Based on a little research, and a chat with a friend, I came across the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme on Scan (I would post a link, but Hexus won't let me yet =P).
Currently favouring the Xigmatek one as it's cheaper, comes with the fan and supposedly the only difference is a few degrees.
Basically, I'm wondering what other options I could get for a reasonable amount of money, and people's personal experiences with any HSFs they recommend.

The xigmatek is a great cooler. Damn near TRUE temps but as you say a lot cheaper. The fan is pretty quiet to :)
You also have the scythe mine for about £25 or the ninja for about £30 which is my favourite.
Re: Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
How does the Scythe Mine and Ninja compare, in terms of noise and temperatures?
Re: Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
Ninja can run passive to a point or with a very low spinning fan. It will match the xigmatec near enough.
The mine uses a 100mm fan which is a little bit odd, I'd like to be able to change the fan if I felt the need. Maybe it works with a 120mm fan though I don't know.
Certainly noise is their strong point but they perform up with the big boys on temps too :)
Re: Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
:P So they're quiet? That's great :D!
Btw....I've heard a lot about a certain "Tuniq Tower" HSF. I looked on Scan and couldn't seem to find it however....
Do you know anything about it? Is it sold in the UK? how does it perform, what's the price?
Re: Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
There are so many great coolers out there these days it's really quite hard to choose, along with the usual Xigmatec (extreme cooling on a budget :P), Scythe (best quality coolers) and Thermalright (expensive) solutions, I'd recommend this Zerotherm one as well:

After reading several reviews I was thoroughly impressed, it beat the likes of Thermalright 120 Ultra extreme and Scythe Infinity. I think it looks great and the blue LED is a bonus (for me anyway). I was so impressed I think I will make this my next CPU cooler!

Re: Advice on a new HSF for Q6600
I can recommend the Xigmatek S1283... I've been running Prime95 for the past hour to stress my CU, temperatures are currently 30C CPU and 46C/46C/38C/40C across the cores (with the CPU fan on 1200RPM), seems pretty good to me.
Going to re-install the cooler today with the Xigmatek Crossbow mount (rather than the push-pin setup it comes with), hopefully will see a further improvement on those temps... then it's time to get overclocking :)
cheers
