shaithis PLEASE READ THIS !
Hello shaithis,
in May of this year I ask about repairing a HD, as one of mine had gone 'belly-up.'
One of your recommendations was for me to place it in the freezer. Unfortunately, owing to unforeseen circumstances I forgot all about your ideas, until the other day. So I stuffed the HD into the freezer for a couple of days, and have just reconnected a very cold HD to my system, and it worked fine!
May I thank you for you suggestion. However I am curious as to why you thought that this method might work; was it a s.w.a.g. or have you tried it before? Please let us know?
regards

Re: shaithis PLEASE READ THIS !
The cold shrinks the mechanical bits and allows jammed disks to get the spindle going, the freezer trick is handy for rescuing data before canning the disk.

when you say 'worked fine', are you frantically trying to copy some important data off the disk, or does the disk hold non important data so when it dies again it doesn't matter?
Re: shaithis PLEASE READ THIS !
Thank you for the replies. It does work fine, I have removed any data that I need.
Aidanjt, many thanks for the explanation.
