not another new build?!!? Opinions required.

Sorry for yet another one of these.."Please sanity check the following shopping list"

Based on previous individual recomendations / research on hexus forums I am seriously contemplating the following build:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor - £119

Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-18) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty - £53

Scythe Mine Rev-B Socket 478, 754, 940, 775, 939 & AM2 CPU Cooler - £27

Antec P182 Gunmetal Grey Super Mid Tower Case - No PSU - £76

Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB SATAII 16MB Cache 7200 RPM - £36

Asus P5Q PRO P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - £87

Sony DRU-190S 20X DVD±RW DL & DVD-RAM Serial ATA - Retail Multi Bezel & Nero - £17

Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound Thermal paste 3.5gram - £5

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium - Licence and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 64-bit - £59

I already have (in current system) and plan to re-use....

BFG 8800GT 512MB OC2 PCI-E GPU
Corsair 450W VX 450W PSU
500GB Seagate 7200.11 32MB

Total Cost (inc delivery to N.Ireland) = £498

I am in two minds if to use vista or not... whats your guys take on vista x64?
Any comments on the component choices?

All pricing from ebuyer.com

Looks perfect... I would go for a bigger hard drive though, maybe 640gb to guarantee dense platters

lol ok barney...

For money saving the Q6600 is available £105 at aria.co.uk, the motherboard is also up cheaper there.

I made the similar build a couple of weeks back, with vista x64 no problems at all, unless you plan to use a really old printer apparently, my printer is from 2004 i think, maybe earlier no problems with that.

Edit : Didn't see the ebuyer part, scan offer free delivery to hexus members, but aria is still cheap

Looks pretty spot on to me, nice work.

64-bit Vista is apparently quite stable (a few users here swear by it) but I personally still use XP. </is scared of change >

Looks like what I would build

You could save money with this
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=700899, it's gives great temps and the fan is pretty decent to.

Suprised to see the case that cheap though, I don't even need it and I'm tempted lol

I would go for the S1284 instead if you can find it anywhere... is it even out yet?

Re: not another new build?!!? Opinions required.

I know this probably isn't really worth alot of weight but

I love the build, I'm a cheap git so I wouldn't spend that much on a case myself but if Mike says its good, then its bloody good.

Otherwise wait for Friday as the last two weekends starting friday afternoon Scans today only offers gave you about £4 discount on the Q6600 AND a free £35USrobotics Skype speakerphone *which can probably be sold on ebay if you don't need it, i just love the idea of having a skype phone that looks like ufo *

Also, RAM is a couple of pound cheaper in Shop Offers and alot of that is available on fridays also in Today offers, save yourself probably another £20. And through scan £20 P&P saved...

Wow, I should get a job at scan.

Well on high the S1284 is almost 10 decibels lower in noise so the fan perhaps doesn't push as much air. I'd rather see it with the same fan.

thats just what i was thinking, they will loose a lot of sales because of that fan, the cooler is identical, but with an added heat pipe. It would have been the next big cooler, but the fan spoilt it
