    Re: High Definition Media Center

I see that the GA-MA78GM-S2H claims HDCP on the feature list. One of the motherboards mentioned earlier in the thread did not. Is this a concern when looking at motherboards to run Media Center?

You need a HDCP compliant graphics card or intergrated graphics on the mobo to watch official copies of Blu-ray movies (and possibly HD-DVD's). You also need a digital connection to your monitor/tv and that also has to be HDCP compliant. VGA will not work as is analogue, so youre looking at DVI or HDMI.

This Gigabyte board is perfect for a HTPC setup, I've just built mine using it, the onboard graphics are HDCP and play blu-ray no problem.

Couldn't he use AnyDVD HD to get around this? Its not ideal, but its an option...

I do the same. My mobo has a HDMI port onboard which has HDCP, but it makes life a lot easier using AnyDVD HD. No more watching trailers or copyright notices...just skip straight to the DVD menu

Yup, plus a lot of media centre users will be using AnyDVD HD anyway for multi-region playback.
