    logitech mx1000 mouse problems

I just got an MX1000 laser mouse to replace a Logitech Mouseman optical, and I really like it in many ways... however it seems to have one major and fairly critical flaw: it doesn't seem to work 100% reliably on any surface I have yet tried it on, unlike my older mouse.

Anyone else with this problem? My old optical mouse worked much better on the printed mousemat I use than this. Granted, the MX1000 seems to work better on surfaces my old optical mouse wouldn't work on at all, but it DOESN'T work as well as my old mouse did when just used on the mouse mat.

It's hard to describe... if I move the mouse pointer around in circles, the mouse will sometimes lag badly, and jerk about on the screen and then quite often when I've stopped moving the mouse the pointer will still be moving on the screen. This means I tend to overshoot buttons, and it's a nightmare when gaming if it's playing up.

It seems to do this on any reasonable surface I can use as a mousemat on my desk... the mousemat, the desk surface, my lab book, etc. Should I complain to logitech?

Also, is it me, or are Logitech drivers the worst, bloatiest pieces of utter crapola in the world? Since putting the SetPoint driver on my PC it takes about 20 seconds longer to boot than it did before.

    Not impressed so far. :-(

    Re: logitech mx1000 mouse problems

I have the MX1000 and I have no issues regarding what surface it works on.

I use a cloth + rubber based mousemat from creative advertising the X-Fi and this works fine. It also works fine on my jeans, my cloth based Qpad and solid plastic Qpad when they are needed to be used and I have never experienced any lag, slowdown or juttering within games as I tend to play FPS and other games (WoW) on a daily basis at the moment.

Saying that, I've not installed the logitech software as I just use the HID drivers embedded within windows.

Interesting.... Maybe I'll give that a go. So I'll lose the ability to use some of the buttons though, right?

    Re: logitech mx1000 mouse problems

I just found a little extension cable for the bluetooth receiver.... I'll see if it makes a difference with the receiver right next to the mouse. If all is good, then I'll know that some kind of interference was the problem.

Setpoint has been a bag of poo as long as I can recall, and as such I always just use the HID drivers. All your buttons will work, but I'm not sure if the thumb buttons will be mapped to back/forward when surfing.

Yup - must have been some kind of interferences. Working very nicely now. :-D

It still might get rid of SetPoint though... it's a big bloaty turd.
