Re: Anyone imported a laptop from USA before? Great prices atm

Guys i was looking at this thread and just want to say from someone whos works with US and imports and exports a lot the following.

1: DO NOT TRY IMPORTING PC GOODS FROM US TO UK..

Customs will take it apart sinse it contains electrical goods, look though it(probally dmg it as well while doing so,.)

Also you will be charged 17.5%VAT on imports, and added surge charge and importing charges,

alltogether i belive the avg charge is around 20% at the current region.

I strongly suggest you don't import PC or parts from US, it very risky and during this current tension in world with terror ect the customs are VERY paranoid about electrical goods.

I imported a circuit board a few months back...... i got a letter saying

"HM customs ect ect are sorry to imform you that the following package XXX was destroyed due to security reasons which we cannot give nor answer to.

Sorry for your inconvenience you may try filling in a XXX form and compensation might be given for a % of the overall cost."

This why i hate customs and their clumsy little hands, anything they get their hands on ends up broken lol...

    Trust me DONT DO IT.......

I think a good idea is, save lots of money, go there with hardly anything and come back with loads of clothes and a few electrical goods.

or if you have to go to the USDA any ways, pick up something on the trip.

So you reckon your going to fly to the US and back, stay somewhere for £200?

I doubt it and even then you still have the warranty issues...

IMO not worth it. Just buy online direct from manufacturer.

It can often save you a packet like Dell.co.uk
