Question Cant find what Motherboard im looking for ???

Im looking in getting a new ATX MOBO for a new rig im building....

Im looking for a Mobo that has
    PCI-E 2.0
    Socket 755
    supports DDR2 800+
    Supports SLI but not essential

Also why do most MOBO's support Crossfire and not SLI?
What chip set would you recommend?
All this must be between £50-£120...

    Cheers

So far my eyes have been on the

    Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=847363

    Asus P5Q, iP45
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=818511

SLi is an Nvidia only technology so most intel chipsets (there is one or two and soon to be more) only support crossfire as AMD/ATi are happy for them to use crossfire.

As for your board, Asus P5Q in one of it's various flavours would suit that, not SLi though.. I wouldn't both with SLi personally.

If you can live without SLi, I cant recommend the Asus P5Q range enough. It uses the latest Intel P45 chipset and sits in your price range. The version you get is down to which features you want. I got the P5Q deluxe cus I wanted the Express Gate SSD and SB heatpipe and 16 phase vrm. I'm pretty sure scan has the full range. I personally will never buy an nvidia chipset mobo again. And on the crossfire no nvidia thing. Thats becuase sli wouldnt license sli on intel chipsets but ati licensed crossfire. however, nvidia have made the right choice with the 1366 sockets coming next year and are allwoing sli on an intel chipset.

Re: Cant find what Motherboard im looking for ???

Looking at the Asus P5Q range, and there are loads????
whats the main differences between them all??? which one would most suit my needs?

Im not to bothered about SLI so should i go for just the P5Q as it only has 1 PCI-E slot
or does it pay in other ways to spend a bit more and get the pro or deluxe????

    Cheers

Well the PRO should only be a few quid more than standard. I normally shoot for the -E of most asus ranges. You normally get lots of nice features and decent chipset cooling for overclocking

Re: Cant find what Motherboard im looking for ???

If i was to get a new Nvidia 260 card it would not make a difference if the MOBO was crossfire would it? Unless i have 2 of the cards right?

What was wrong with it? I'm planning to get a P5Q-E soon, so I don't want to make a big mistake.

It was first version 1.02G of this asus board P5W DH and since that time they released 2 more versions with fixed bugs. These new boards are probably in better condition cos they all using better capacitors etc… Best to read some of these threads
