Mounting a PSU, fan up or down?

Just had a thought whilst poking around in my case; it's a Cosmos S with the PSU mounted at the bottom rear...

Which way should the PSU be sitting? With the fan facing upwards (sucking air out of the case and through the PSU) or facing downwards (sucking air into the PSU from outside and then out the back)?

The Cosmos S has an intake and dust filter underneath the PSU mounting point, so I assumed that the fan should be orientated to suck air in through this... But now I'm not sure?

    Thanks for your advice/thoughts

Re: Mounting a PSU, fan up or down?

it's all down to the particular scenario really... because with mine in a Lian Li A05 if the PSU fan faces down it gets stuck against the case (unless it's modded to have an access hole), but facing up it is stuck against the HDD cage that has a few air vents in, but as a general rule i put the fan facing into the case so that it can take some extra air out with it unless with it facing in it impedes airflow... or is stuck against something such as a HDD cage...

Re: Mounting a PSU, fan up or down?

Personally I would leave it how you have it this way you are cooling your PSU with cold air and the fan will not have to spin as fast to keep the components coolwhich will in turn mean you have less noise and higher efficiencies its a win win situation!
