    Streaming DVR-MS

Anyone know how to do the above?

I want to stream what I've recorded from my HTPC to the PS3 or to another HTPC. I'm using TVersity at the moment for streaming to the PS3 but it just wont pick up the recorded TV files - its fine with mp3s and avi files.

    Re: Streaming DVR-MS

Does it work with normal MPEG-2 files?

DVR-MS files are just the MPEG-2 stream wrapped in a differnt container.

Have a search about, there are loads of tools to do this. It shouldn't take long to convert as it isn't actually transcoding the file, just changing the container type.

Not really sure what I'm looking for though, hence the thread. The converting is an absolute pain, will TVersity do it on the fly?

No idea about TVersity, never used it.

EDIT: A couple of TVersity forum results came up as well, looks like this is a problem despite TVersity claiming it does work (it is listed in their supported file formats). Have you seen this? Migh help: http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/how-t...ation-3-046182

    Re: Streaming DVR-MS

This is an OLD post and I'm aware of this, but I found away to stream the DVR-MS files using WMP. As long as you can access the files, to play the files the best thing that I found was using ffdshow and Nero 7 (or higher) Nero 7 has the MUST HAVE codec for the DVR-MS files. I've tested this TODAY 10/29/2008 and works with no issues at all as long as you have a high speed connection on both ends. With Nero 7 you get the benefit of seeing video from DVR-MS files and burning CD/DVDs!

Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility (google it, use the MS website version) is a nice utility to show you whether or not your codec is MCE compatible or not

    Re: Streaming DVR-MS

You just need a suitable mpeg decoder - i can play my recorded TV wirelessly on my eee pc (from the media centre) which has the nvidia purevideo decoder installed (for example). Media player used as the player of course. Handy for watching the news in the bath
Media player understands the container, but XP doesn't come with a decoder for the mpeg stream (the same way you need one to play DVDs) in my case.

Another HTPC can simply be set to 'share' the recorded TV directory - i.e. add a network share on the source machine.
