Sata HDD not regconize max space

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I've just built a new computer with

P5K-E/WI-FI mother board, E6750 CPU and Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

I don't have a problem loading Window XP on SATA hard drive but the problem I'm facing right now is Window XP only regconized 131 GB out of 640 GB of my hard drive.

Please let me know if anybody have an idea how to maximize my HDD space.

    Thanks,

Re: Sata HDD not regconize max space

Sounds like either the compatability jumper on the drive has been set, or you haven't installed from a servicepacked xp cd.

XP pre-sp1 can only address drives upto 120GB iirc.

Re: Sata HDD not regconize max space

    Thank you for all replies,

I did not set any jumpers on the hard drive, I'll double check the jumper fuctions since I thought the jumper is there for slave and master setting for IDE hard drive.

I don't have SP2 or SP3 on my XP CD. It wouldn't let me update SP2 and SP3 since my XP CD hasn't been registered.

Anybody know how to install SP2, SP3 w/o register ?

Re: Sata HDD not regconize max space

    Why not register it then?

You could also splistream SP3 into XP and create a boot CD from that for the future. Definitely a good thing to do.

    Thank you for your response,

I've been using a copy version of window XP that's y it's never been registered.

I'll follow the link and make a boot CD with SP3.

Re: Sata HDD not regconize max space

xp sp1 cannot recognise drives over 135GB...

you can download a tool from WD to gain the extra space...

(it creates a new partition with the extra space)

edit: it's HERE data lifeguard tools, i think...

download it, install it, and then find the option to format the unused space on the HDD, it's a common thing that i run into too... because everytime i do a reinstall the only disc i have to hand is an SP1 disc... i really should slipstream the servicepacks/drivers in using NLite.. (especially seeing as though it's allready installed )

also, people looking to slipstream with vista can use vlite

    oh... and welcome to HEXUS

    why?

what makes a E6750 worth buying, but not an OS?
