    HD3650 or HD2600 XT ?

Which do you reckon is the the best performer of the 2

    The HD3650 DDR2 512mb versus the HD2600XT GDDR3 256mb, both are around £35, so price difference isn't an issue.

Don't want to spend anymore so just want to focus on these 2 otherwise I would just get a 8600gt. Only used for Movies, video editing and very light gaming.

Will be used to upgrade the HD2400pro 128mb in my wife's PC

I can't really find anything definitive on performance of the 2 head to head, the 3650 uses less power at idle due to the 55nm processor but its only 10 watts or so.

I'm pretty certain that the HD2600XT would be a better performer than the HD3650; the 2 series were always slightly better performers than their 3 series counterparts. Having said that the HD3650 would still be the better part to go for because of more features and less heat and noise.

Thanks Zhaoman, I'd forgotten that the 2600's can be noisy.

    Re: HD3650 or HD2600 XT ?

    I have a HD3650.

Mine is totally silent. As in, you can't hear it even if you disconnect all other fans, turn off speakers and fully OC it, then run it at 100% workload.

Same way that it never hits more than 30-40 Celsius.

Very good model... but I think I have the GDDR3 512mb version... from Saphire I think.

About £40-40 I think, so outside your budget. Not sure how mine compares to the £35 one

EDIT: £40-50... from Scan. I think.

    Re: HD3650 or HD2600 XT ?

Many Thanks, 3650 it is then, want a quiet cool GPU as the rest of the PC is quiet.

After the first reply I remembered looking at the 2600XT last year for my PC, and there were quite a few User reviews on Ebuyer that said it was the noisest component in their machines, glad I posted here as I had completely forgotten this and I was leaning towards the 2600XT as it may have a slight performance lead.

I have also heard these can be OC'd quite well, so will look into this.

Don't buy a 2*** series, they had so many problems and had terrible drivers.

If you can get a good driver disk you shouldn't have any problems OCing.

I can automatically stable OC throuhg the use of the aTi OCer that comes with the card
