    Purchase imminent or not...

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2 6400 (does dhx make much diff?)

640 GB Western Digital WD6400AAKS Caviar

    HP 1070i 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, x12 DVD-RAM SATA Lightscribe Black Retail + Nero (chose for free nero)

520W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU

    Asus P5Q PRO

Most likely going to get the antec 900. Will it all fit?

Right next i have a 32" lcd at the moment would i be better of getting a montior namely 22" Neovo H-W22 Widescreen LCD and wait to get a graphics card as i wont need one for another month at least or get the graphics card and just leave the monitor till later?

Also was thinking about the xigametek s1283 but i am more inclined to the looks of the asus silent knight 2, i like purdy things would it fit ok in the case and with the motherboard.

Cheers guys sorry about doing another one but this time im super sereal

    Re: Purchase imminent or not...

iv got a simmilar set up. same CPU, RAM, CD drive, but my motherboard is an Asus P5K Premium/wifi-ap. all fitting into a CM690, that should all easily fit in an antec 900
err, no idea what dhx is sorry
not too sure about the heatsink, have seen them on scan but never in use. id go for a scythe ninja or TRUE, both slightly cheaper than the silent knight

here is a link to the TRUE, but if you got it you would also need to get a fan as it doesn't come with one
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=676579
    and the scythe ninja
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=296802

also good choise of PSU, i have just RMAed my enermax and am getting one of them to replace it (hopefully)

This Zerotherm looks well hot! I thought the Silent Knight looked great as well until I saw a sideways shot. Let's just say it's a bit stout... It's cooling performance is satisfactory though.

    Re: Purchase imminent or not...

Samsung Dvd writers come with OEM nero.. all my have anyway. They have the added benefit of not being anything to do with HP

Everything else looks good. Personally I'd go for the Coolermaster CM-690 though.

I presume you're getting a 64 bit OS to be able to actually USE the 4gb RAM?

    Re: Purchase imminent or not...

August 20th? how big a price drops we talkin? if thats the case then ill wait and hopefully everything else will have come down aswel . thanks mike but the 690 doesnt have a side window or i would have gone for it. Ill end up regretting not getting a case that sits quiet and conspicious but till then ill go for the tacky look

    Re: Purchase imminent or not...

I honestly don't know how much to expect the prices to drop by, I just know they're dropping in anticipation of Nehalem's release. I'm just about managing to contain my cash until then for my own upgrades hehe

Intel axes some desktop CPU prices

I think they've already made the Q6600 price reductions...

i had already seen this but have these been reflected in uk prices? I cant understand why the E8500 is still more expensive when the price of it has been reduced below the q6600? Demand still higher for the E8500?

    Re: Purchase imminent or not...

Most retailers still have the E8500 listed as more expensive than the Q6600 because it's a 45nm chip (where as the Q6600 is 65nm). The price drops do show that the E8500 should now be less, but this'll take a while to filter down. We probably won't see an impact until the retailers order a new batch of chips after selling their current lot.
