Ok, so here's the rig I'm going to get this week (hopefully =p)

Going to order the following this week hopefully, but before I do I want to see you people's opinion 1 last time =)

I will be ordering from a Dutch site, but to make it a bit easier on you guys I looked up all the parts on scan =p

    Asus P5Q Pro

    Asus GeForce GTX 260

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Chipset Boxed

    Corsair 4GB Kit, 240pin DIMM, 4-4-4-12, PC2-6400

    Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB

    Antec Three Hundred

    Corsair HX 520W

Samsung SyncMaster 2043BW (Couldn't find it on Scan)

    ---------------------

So this is what I am going to order. Now 2 questions remain for me, or more sort of advice.

    1. Do I need to get anything else besides this, something I might need? Do I need to get additional Case Fans if I have this setup? (3 optional spots in case left, already 2 come with the case)
Or maybe any tips about problems or things I need to look out for?

    2. Concerning the PSU, I was doubting between the HX520W and the TX650W, the TX obviously has more power, but the HX is a modular unit.
Is it really worth getting a Modular unit? And if I take the HX520W, I want to be 100% sure it's more than enough power for this system, I don't want to run on the edge when it comes to power, or cut short on it.
    The TX650W is most likely more than enough, but it's not modular, so my question is;
The modular HX520W or the non-modular, more powerfull TX650W?

That's kind of everything I think, any advice, suggestions as always more than welcome =)

If your worried about heat, a heatpipe for your processor wouldn't be a bad place to start, you can get good ones for around £20, I personally prefer the Xigmatek 120mm Multi CPU s775 fan for £22. Also, theres the option to get a couple of fans for the front as suggested in the other thread. Two for intake at the front where the top ones will be used for outtakes in the case. Whether you need one on the GFX card i don't know as I haven't checked out the 260s, but I doubt it.

Don't forget an optical drive, £10/15 is plenty. Theres decent samsung litescribe satas on SCAN.

Also, you running a 64Bit OS on that? That'll be another £60... Plus a good thermal paste, £3/£4 something

    Thanks for the reply.

I'll get Vista Ultimate 64-bit and I forgot to mention I will be using the CD/DVD drive from my old PC (it's the only thing I bought new lately)
I'll buy Arctic Silver 5 when I get the stuff aswell.

I don't know if I'm going to overlock, atm I'm looking at this and it's like a million times better than my PC now so I won't even think about overclocking, maybe in the future lol

About the processor cooling, the Box comes with a stock heatpipe itself? And if it does, is the stock really that bad? I know the standard paste kinda sucks =p

    Vista Ultimate?

Isn't that a little excessive? Save yourself £150 and buy Premium.... Ultimate doesn't really jutsify the price tag I don't think. Are you using OEM/Retail OS? The difference is a price tag again.

Generally the more fans you have, the better the cooling, the more the noise. Retail HSF tends to fail majorly (I have tried two AMD retail HSF.. neither really worked that well... the £5 one I have works better) but be aware not using it might void warranties.

Re: Ok, so here's the rig I'm going to get this week (hopefully =p)

Ultimate is overkill, I've had premium myself on my laptop for nigh on a year and have yet to think "wow, i wish vista had more features on"

A stocks fine for the dual-core, as you won't need to overclock that if you get one. Only if you fancy your-self for a bit of a geek and look at the Quad for an oc.

Its just that if we have any more hot spells round here, your processor might get a bit 'warm' without decent cooling.

good choice on screen, iv got that samsung & love it to bits!

i also think the corsair 520HX will be enough for your system, i think the 650w will be overkill. The modular design also helps keep things neat & tidy.

Re: Ok, so here's the rig I'm going to get this week (hopefully =p)

Thank you all very much for the replies!

The reason I'm getting Vista Ultimate is, my friend has the 64-bit version, it's a retail. It's a bussiness sale thingy or whatever, meaning it's bought to be installed on like 40 computers at once (or whatever that's called) since he works at a company that needs that. But since he has his own copy, I can use it aswell, saves me money on the OS. I have myself XP Home and Pro, both 32-bit.

I think I will use the stock cooler for the CPU, but I might consider to buy 1 extra case fan to cool my graphic card, hence that's the most expansive part =p

Not quite. It used to work like that but with vista it's different (but still a fair bit cheaper). With a retail vista OS you could migrate it to another pc/motherboard if you needed to. However with the oem copy you can't do this, it's forever tied to the machine it's first installed on.

You should be able to change the motherboard if it isn't considered an upgrade. Might need a phone call to do it though.

Seem to remember you were having a lot of trouble with an abit board that kept getting sent back to you.

Yeah... I went and changed to gigabyte/misco and it solved all my problems...

Of course.. I also had to replace the CPU.

methinks two parts blew up instead of one.

Well I'll be using a Retail version of Vista Ultimate 64-bit, so I won't have that problem ^^

If you're really worried about not having enough power but want modular get the corsair HX620W. so far mines been great and can't fault it.
looks a pretty sweet build so far. keeps us updated on how it goes along with pics. (i love pics )

On the motherboard - have you considered the P5Q-E it seems to have most of the missing features from the deluxe for the sake of a tenner and got good reviews, thats the reason I went for it.

Compare the specs on the ASUS website.

Nice setup you have listed. I was thinking of going for a Exxxx instead of A Qxxxx because of cost etc and not many programs/games use all cores.

Everything looks good from what you listed.

Re: Ok, so here's the rig I'm going to get this week (hopefully =p)

Have your cake and eat it, you can pick-up a Q6600 for £110 these days and overclock it to 3Ghz+

Not many games may take advantage of 4 cores right now but remember the development cycle of games today is often two years or more and quad core is a relatively new technology.
