    3.4ghz overclock - what next?

I followed Clunk's guide to overclocking the Q6600

I've got an ASUS P5K-VM, and managed to overclock the 2.4ghz cpu to 3.4ghz.
But to go higher - do I need more CPU volts? (I haven't adjusted these yet)

CPU Temp is 48 under load (cores 58,58,55,57)

I've got the ram at 378mhz - and am using Corsair 800mhz, 4,4,4,12 ram 2x 1gb, ram is set to 5,5,5,12 and 2.1v (which is correct).

The CPU is new and is a SLACR, and the PSU is a Corsair vx550w

    CPUZ:

    Cheers,

    Josh

Do you need to go higher? Mine easily does 3.6 (yours will probably too) but I settled for 3.2 and I can't tell any difference in anything

I can't tell the difference between 2.4 and 3.6 on my E6600 unless I'm doing video encoding..

If it's stable at 3.4GHz with stock volts on that board.. I'd be happy as a pig in **** and stick with it or lower it as SIM says.

Re: 3.4ghz overclock - what next?

Hello, I've set it to 3.33ghz (with 4,4,4,12 memory timings) - and it's very stable - running all night full load - and CPU temp is 47 (core temp 58,58,55,57), motherboard 27. Using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

I think this will do me for speed Especially as some people who sell garanteed overclocks to 3.3ghz say you may need to up the CPU voltage to 1.5 / 1.45 !!! It's nice that I can run it at this speed without increasing the voltage.

I tried another Q6600 SLACR from just after they came out, and the highest I could get that to go was 3.2ghz.

Re: 3.4ghz overclock - what next?

Sounds good... Btw, the voltage does increase if it is set to Auto. So I suggest you manually tweak the voltages settings (NB/FSB term/GTL/PLL etc) now. Start with all of them fairly high (get some safe settings from the internet) and lower one at a time, testing for stability each time

you could lower your temps with a better cooler! but that's a nice result

    It's 4.98*
