    Cheap IPA

As the title suggests, this is about IPA or isopropyl alcohol. Basically I need to buy some more for component cleaning and wanted to know if anyone knew of the best (cheapest) place to buy it. Only one I can find is maplin at 10.99 for a litre servisol can.

    Maplin

You used to be able to buy small bottles of it at pharmacists. I always used to use it for cleaning printer platens back in the days of impact printers.

I assume you are not talking about this:

    ??!!

More seriously are you looking for 100% isopropyl alcohol or a lower percentage??!!

    Have you looked on Ebay??

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=I...0&_trksid=m270

You can get a litre for around £8 to £9 delivered and smaller quantities like 250ml for around £3 to £4.

    Re: Cheap IPA

I ordered a medium bottle from the local pharmacy. Under £5 at the time.

    Re: Cheap IPA

Ok, good to know I hadn't missed any blindingly obvious places to buy the stuff. I had looked at pharmacy, ebay and hardware shops and was a little surprised. Of the 4 chemists in my area (3 independents and boots) only 1 had any but it was as part of a product called rubbing alcohol. Which would have been fine but it had some kind of fragrance compound mixed in

The other pharmacies were useless. The lady behind the pharmacy counter in boots didn't even know what it was. Worrying that someone dispensing medicines doesn't even know of a very basic chemical.

Hardware stores were also useless asides maplin. And as for ebay, yes it is cheaper (probably the cheapest) but I didn't fancy waiting several days on postage so have gone for maplin.

Incidentally, does anyone else find it a little disturbing the amount of chemicals that are available on ebay? No questions asked (and pretty much anonymously) you can get your hands on some things that maybe it'd be better if you couldn't...

Yes it is surprising, nowadays we`re not to be trusted with anything, I`m surprised they still let us buy matches..........................
