    Ultimate PSU

Hi all, I currently have a CoolerMaster RealPower M620, after feedback from other members I have decided to look into changing it.

The 5V Rail is showing up at 4.85V hence I want to get something better

What do you all think? Apart from the Corsair, is there anything better?

    Re: Ultimate PSU

    4.85 is well within tolerance.

But what is your planned usage?

Everyday computing. People told me 4.85 is too low and will damage computing

    Looking to get a 4870 hooked up or a GTX260 and have 3 HDs and a Q6600

    Re: Ultimate PSU

The spec for the 5 volt rail is +/- 5% or .25V So it can be between 4.75 and 5.25 Volts. A clibtrated multimter will probably be accurate to 2% so if you measued 5 volts, the actual coltage will be anything between 4.9 and 5.1.

I suspect you are using some software tool and the mobo sensors, whose calibration is unknown. 2 digit precision (after the decimal point)is probably unrealistic - so the best you can say is that the voltage is better than 4.8 volts.

Undervolting the processor by such a small amount won't doany long or short term damage - at worst it could lead to instability.

If your system is working, leave it alone - unless you have other reasons for upgrading, because you are upgrading other components and need highere power - but 620 Watts is quite a lot.

Coolermaster PSUs may not be a brand that springs to mind as top notch, but they aren't bad.

(the rails on My corsair aren't exactly the rated amount - chances are your would be similar)

    Re: Ultimate PSU

Your PSU is fine for what you want to do. 4.85 Volts is also well within spec. There is no point in upgrading really.

It is really really tough to make a computer use more than 500 Watts of power... At the wall socket I've never seen my watt meter go over 450 Watts and that is with a 30" montior + 20" monitor a GTX 260, an overclocked Q6600, UPS, printer, various other gubbins all plugged into it. I doubt my 520 Watt power supply is ever asked for more than about 300 Watts itself.

    Re: Ultimate PSU

    Hiper 580W, E6600, 3 HDD, 4850.

    Core = 1.17V
    +3.3 = 3.33V
    +5.0 = 4.86V
    +12.0 = 12.16V

    PRO, lol.
