    They are both the awesomeness

I currently have the Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 and its GREAT! I highly doubt you could go wrong purchasing either of those tbh.

In fact those boards are exactly the same except for the one being X48 and the other being X38... get the X38 one since its a bit cheaper and in stock at Scan

X48 is newer than the X38. So you might aswell get the newer one and since you mentioned both, I think that cost isnt too much of a concern. So X48, easy.

Re: which motherboard is the awesomeness

The Gigabyte boards are pretty good, I have the GA-P35-DS3 which has been fine so far but has a few features missing that i would have liked, like proper bios fan control.
Its worth nothing that all P35, X38, (and X48 I think) gigabyte boards are affected by a DPC latency issue however. Basically it means the boards don't always handle realtime data streams as promptly as they should, which is bad news if you're doing video or sound editing/processing as it can cause drops in video and audio. In addition some people were saying it was causing responsiveness issues in Vista. There are BIOS updates that can be requested from Gigabyte if it affects you but its not completely resolved as I understand.

I'm pretty sure though X48 is DDR3 only which means you will have to buy more expensive DDR3 RAM, the price is coming down, but its still a long way off DDR2 prices at the moment, so you should factor this into the costs as well.

Edit: ignore this, as just realised that those models do support DDR2, I think i've been confused by the fact that it also supports DDR3.
