ram not showing up as it should

Hello all,

I upgraded my ram to crucial ballistix pc8500 a while back and everything has been sweet. I recently had a hard drive crash but I use acronis as a backup and reverted it to one i made about 3 months previously. Now quite alot had changed including an update to sp3. Now when I run cpu-z on my comp Its telling me that it is pc6200 ram? Any idea why?

Also do you get firmware/software updates for ram and having only 2gb (2x1gb stix)

Would it matter if i bout 2x pc8500 and slapped them alongside if the machine thinks they are pc6200?

maybe thats all your board can handle? need to check your mobo specs and then configure ram correctly in your bios

Its because 8500 is not an official speed rating and so it can be overclocked 6400 ram that is qualified for those speeds. Go into the bios and make sure its clocked at 1066mhz or what ever the speed is ment to be, should be fine.

ahh i think your right hicks. Im on a good mobo so it can defo handle 8500 ram, ive got an evga 680i motherboard.

Im running a Q6600 very slightly overclocked (2.8) as mine gets v hot quickly, therefore the fsb is summat like 300.

Should i run the ram at 1066 like it could or should i drop it down to keep the ratio 1:2 or 1:3?
