    Quiet 1TB drives

It's time to get a decent sized hard drive

I would go for SSDs, but they are still developing and they don't offer me enough storage.

As this is going into my PC, I want it to be quiet, but I don't want it to be slow (5400RPM Drives)

So, a 7200RPM 1TB drive, Western Digital Caviar Blue or Samsung Spinpoint F1 isn't it?

I could always get a caviar black if they aren't loud either, not sure, they are the fastest so I assume so.

Another idea is an SSD boot drive with the 1TB in an eSATA caddy under the desk?

    Thanks

I would buy the western digital, not had any problems with noise recently using them.

That said I believe the spinpoint is known to be quieter.

    Re: Quiet 1TB drives

I thought the difference was cache more than anything so either should be good. I only have experience with the blues though
so if noise is the main concern I would buy that based on my current knowledge.

    Re: Quiet 1TB drives

I would check silentpcreview as they have audio recordings of the noise the hard drives they review make.

The Samsung F1 is rated highly by them for noise:

    Re: Quiet 1TB drives

There is supposed to be a new Samsung F3s coming out to replace the F1s. And as the F1s are so good the F3s should be even better from performace point of view. AFAIK
