    Re: Upgrade advice....

If your thinking to go for two GTX 280's in the future, why not get the Antec Twelve Hundred case? It's the next gen from the Nine Hundred and looks (imo) much better lol, though I wouldn't need all those flashy lights myself, it's a funny extra... But best it's a huge case, looks good and got good ways to get rid of the cables.

    Re: Upgrade advice....

Overclocking wise you are better off with an Intel board and thus ATi cards for xfire. Abit X38 maybe.

Nvidia boards probably won't deliver the sort of FSB to warrant watercooling and in fact isn't there already an article about the E8600 getting to 5.0GHz on air cooling.
Tbh Unless you have a really great need for anything over 4.0GHz I wouldn't bother with water cooling.

Case wise the new Akasa Omega will be pretty awesome for water or air cooling. Tonnes of space in side for 2 (2x120mm) rads or 6 fans I believe.

Antec 1200 is a good choice too

    Re: Upgrade advice....

OK looks like my cheap 2nd 8800GTX has fallen through, so I'm now looking at replacing my existing 8800GTX with a 4870X2 or 280GTX. I was under the impression that these cards are pretty hot and noisy - hence the watercooling....

    Re: Upgrade advice....

I've not read too much about them but they very well might be. I still fear water cooling so thats why my views will have a lot of bias but if you are happy to do it then i'm sure it will be awesome

If you did want to keep it on air I'm not exactly sure what aftermarket coolers would fit those graphics cards, especially the X2 as they are quite a niche product. Assuming they do need their coolers replacing I think your plan is probably best, gets some decent blocks and water cool them .. and show us some pics
