HD 3850 problems. Dropping FPS with PES2008
Bought a HD3850 few days ago to put in my ageing system (Sempron 2800+ @ 1.8ghz, 2GB DDR)
Replaced a 8600GT which played pro evo in medium fine at 1280x1024 with just lags on replays.
With this new card, it is unplayable! My screen res is 1280x1024.
Playing Pro Evo windowed at 1028x768 makes it runs too fast, but its not smooth, still quite jumpy. Same when fullscreened.
Running it at 1280x1024 windowed is the right speed, but it lags and randomly drops fps in normal gameplay. When fullscreened at 1280x1024 the game goes crazy. Takes about 15 seconds to respond to a button press. :O_o1: Quite annoying as this is the game that is played most on my pc.
COD4 and Battlefield 2 seem to run ok with lags just in the heaviest scenes.

Have you made sure that you have totally removed the previous Nvidia driver installation as this could conflict with the ATI drivers nw installed! You can use somethin like this;

Also the HD3850 consumes more power than an 8600GT so you will need to make sure that the PSU is up to it!
Have you also installed the latest drivers too??

As CAT-THE-FIFTH mentioned. You need to make sure you uninstall all files relating the 8600 driver. Best to go into safe mode to clear the driver. Also you 'd be better off clearing out the ATI drivers and to start afresh with a clean installation of the ATI driver.

Thanks for help, but didnt work unfortunately :( Uninstalled ATI drivers. Booted into safe mode, cleared all nvidia drivers and ati again using that programme. Then booted in normal mode and installed latest ATI drivers.
PSU is 400w. 2 HDDs, 1 DVD-RW, 2 80mm fans and a cathode kit running off it. Im guessing its not the psu as COD4 and Battleifield 2 play ok.
Also as a few other members said, my 3dmark06 score seems to be low for what it it should be. Posts in this thread..

Reading the post you linked too I would upgrade the processor to a socket 754 Athlon 64.
I would get a 3200+ or 3400+ as these are the fastest 754 Athlon 64 processors. A 3200+ can be had for under £20 brand new from Ebay:

The mobile socket 754 XPM 3000+ runs at 1.6ghz and has 256kb cache as opposed to the socket 754 Athlon 64 3200+ which runs at 2.2ghz and has 512kb cache!
