    2x2gb or 4x1gb of ram?

As said in the title, whats better? 2x2gb or 4x1gb, im planning on grabing another 2gb soon so was wondering if i should just buy another set of corsair or sell the 2x1 i got at the moment and replace it for 2x2gb, would there be any advantage? i know 4x1 can need a higher voltage but that isnt really an issue aslong as i dont need to send it over 2.1 .

    Thanks.

Re: 2x2gb or 4x1gb of ram?

The problems are more to do with the extra stress on the motherboard and overclocking can be an issue since it's far more likely you get 2 good sticks than 4.

I'd go with 2x2GB personally. There was a thread about 2 days ago about the exact same thing lol

Re: 2x2gb or 4x1gb of ram?

thanks for the quick response mike , missed that thread . Well ill see if i can get some funds together, any chance you know an approx value of 2x1gb sticks of corsair cas4 pc6400 xms2 ram? only been used since start of feb, been on 1.9volts.

edit: forgot to say, wont be overclocking anyways but if i did it would be next year probably lol.

Re: 2x2gb or 4x1gb of ram?

If you already have a set of 2x1GB then it's not going to hurt to use another set really. If you're starting from scratch then 2x2GB is preferable but you probably won't notice a whole load of difference in 4x1GB, that's what my mate uses and he seems happy enough.

You'll probably get £20 delivered, maybe a touch less.

Re: 2x2gb or 4x1gb of ram?

alright, well to save hassel and a loss lol i would probably go for the 2x1gb set again. Would there be any harm buying the cas 5 set as apposed to another identicle one? im guessing the cas 5 is the exact same but they just set the latency higher than normal(much like cpus).

edit: well looking at the ram prices, 4gb set(2x2) is only £53, a 2x1 kit same cas is £30 would it be better to just sell my current ram for ~£20 and then pay roughly the same for 4gb?.

Thats what I was thinking when I left yeah. Sell the old set and the 4GB kit will cost you about the same anyway

and 2x2 will allow you to go to 4x2 (if you are running 64bit OS) later on

As for the approximate value... I think that model is about £25 new (when I bought mine, that was the price. Exact same model) so whatever you take off for secondhand purchasing from that will give you the right value.

I'm not going to comment on what it'll be though.. I don't buy/sell second hand products enough

currently the ram i bought is £33 new , paid £35 so if i sell for around £20-£25 then id need only £30 to buy the set.

Thanks for your help guys, will blag £50 that my dad owes me lol so i should be selling this ram shortly .

There's nothing wrong with 4x1GB, but if you had a choice the 2x2GB is better for upgrading and potential compatability
