I `ve ordered an gtx280 graphics card, and in the spec it states that the power consumption is 630w minimum...is this going to run safely with my 570w one or am i needing to shell out for a new PSU?
Cheers

It won't need 630W no, nvidia always go higher to either make you buy a new PSU or simply to cover there own backside if your 600 - 700W is a naff one like ezCool.. Is your 570W a naff one like ezcool?
no i dont think so, its an Tagan...any good?
Tagan are very good PSUs

oh man oh man!!!..OK, i got my GTX 280 (huuuuuge) and im reading that it needs both 6 pin and 8 pin connectors in to work properly.
Trouble is that i have a PSU with 2x 6 pin connectors.....Sh*t!.
Now im guessing im gonna need a new PSU after all, one with both 6 pin and 8 pin PCIe connectors, right?
So, my question is now down to expert advice...Which would be the best/right PSU to get? (1 card to run).
Cheers fellas.
Isn't it possible to get hold of 6pin to 8pin or molex to 8pin converters?
quick google search and i found these 2:

oops, forgot to refresh.
I have read that these adapters are a fire hazard! True?
Seeing as though nobody knows if its ok to use those adapters or not, my initial question remains valid.
Can anybody recommend a Modular PSU with at least 1 8 pin PCIE connector? (running 1 GTX 280, IP35 Pro mobo, 2 internal HDD, 1 external HDD, 2 optical, soundcard and a few fans).
Price not an issue.
Would an 800w be overkill?
Cheers
corsair HX620w gives you headroom if you wanted to go crazy in the future.. 800w is way OTT
you could get away with a HX520w AFAIK
and that way you get 2 6pin cables that have an extra 2pin hanging off, to make up the 8 pin
i'm not sure about the cables of the enermax modu 82 but that is well worth considering
Thanks for the reply TAKTAK, i`ll look into both although i have read some negative reviews on Corsair PSUs (clicking and whining noises on low loads- can you confirm this?).
Thanks
hmm, i don't know anyone that has had that and not solved it incredibly easily and i've used 3 myself (2 vx450w's and a HX620w +my bros HX620w [yes that makes four... but i don't use my bros do i ]).... i've never seen anything like that, but i suppose every PSU has bad batches..
some have braid probs but a little piece of poking sorts that
but it does work incredibly well the fan on mine is almost completely blocked off, and is loaded alot of the time (F@H) so it gets quite warm... but it's still stable as a rock and still practically inaudible...
