    Re: Another New Build Thread.

The 4870x2 is due for launch this week, so why not kill 2 birds with one stone lower cost mobo but with the frills ie as staffsMike has suggested the Abit p35 XE, Q6600 and the 4870X2.

Support for XFire isnt quite there yet but with AMD 's intention of going multi GPU for the top end card driver support will have to improve to stay in the game, pun intended.

Best of luck in your eventual choice.

@ staffsMike "I wouldn't burn Q9550 money on a quad right now, the Q6600 +IP-35 PRO (XE if you like) will be just as good in the long run I think."
Spot on, I have been arguing with a m8 about a build for him. He wants the latest but the 45nm cpus havent been the success that was anticipated by overclockers. The Q6600 still remains for me the best of the bunch.

The motherboard is still under consideration and probably will be until I click the checkout button, maybe even after that . I am going to go Dual core this time, a Quad upgrade might come before on the Core i7 bandwagon depending on finances.

The HD4870x2 is overkill for me. Currently I won't even stress a HD4870 and it should be powerful enough for a future 24" monitor.

"maybe use the 620W if I decide that I might like Xfire later"

Ahh it was that bit in your first post that made me point it out.

At the end of the day its your money and you should go with what you feel is best for you.

With so much choice and so may suggestions its often difficult to make your mind up. Still be happy in the knowledge that whatever you buy its obsolete

    Good luck in your build

    Re: Another New Build Thread.

lol I should probably remember what I post in my own thread . Crossfire was only really a half thought. I normally buy a more powerful brand new card and swap the old one out, but it seems like a waste especially as I have about 6-7 old cards of varying ages sitting around in boxes at home .
