Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
Qfan is temperature controlled fan speed is it not? for that you need 4pin fans?
Tried speedfan? that enables you to adjust speeds of fans iirc
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
I'm pretty sure the 4pin CPU fan needs all 4 pins (PWM is it?) to control the speed. You could use software such as speedfan to sort it in windows.
You would have probably been better off with a scythe kama fan (PWM) but you could just get a cheap fan controller (zalman fan mate ~£3 or a cheap 3.5" fan controler £10)) to adjust the speed manually as you see fit.
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
cheers guys for the info,
There is nothing i can do about the fan now, but its a DAMM good fan!,
I have also tried speed fan, but its very temperamental, somtimes it detects the fan speeds, but other times it just detects the cpu temperatures. I have no idea why its doing this.
The MB is an Asus P5Q Pro with a q6600
Also would the zalman speed fan controller work on this scythe fan?
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
Works on any 3pin fan. It's just a variable resistor really. You put the fan into the fanmate, the fanmate into the mobo and you just have a single controller for power :)

Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
thanks,
however i was just wondering why speedfan doesn't seem to work.
Somtimes it works by detecting the fan speed rpm but other times doesn't even detect it.
I have the latest version.
Could it be somthing to do with the motherboard? its a brand new motherbaord whcih just came out the p5q pro.
any ideas?
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
Hi,try something else, like Everest,PC Wizard etc.If you are still getting no reading, something is wrong.
Cheers BOB
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
I scanned through the posts and didn't see mention of checking your bios and making sure that the CPU fan is being controlled by voltage (if your bios has this option) this should mean that the fan will ramp up and down with temperature.
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
I was just going to say the same as webby.
While you do need a 4pin PWM fan to use the automatic fan control in the bios, some motherboards also give you a 3pin or voltage setting that allows it to auto matically control 3 pin fans.
I'd be surpprised if the Asus P5Q Pro didn't. :undecided
Re: Scythe slipstrem 1900rpm
hi,
in the power options, there is only the option of the the q fan control whether you want it on or off and whether you want it silent, turbo or standard.
Also how do i check whether my cpu fan (scythe slipstream 1900) is controlled by voltage.
