Hard drive=dead?

Well my computer went bad where it would take 5mins to load a thing like my comptuer and after that it would completely freeze, i didnt have anyway of sorting it so i went for the trusty way of formating the drive, after many attemps of using other drives(to save my data instead of a wipe) and even a usb drive with windows it still woudlnt work so i finally formated the drive, all looked like it went well but after windows was installed it rebooted it came up with an error kinda like this " windows is unable to load from this device it maybe damaged" after going past post, i tried formating again still same issue and i even tried installing ubuntu on it but the loading screen wouldnt go away. ANy ideas? im trying to source some parts to put another system together to double check but does it seem like its broke?

Could be memory - run memtest 86+ to be sure, but your assessment of the disk is probably correct - it's dead.

Thanks for the help, i tried a final time for formatting and installing XP and somehow it did it differently lol, i made 2 partitions(1 for data+windows and 1 for games) and i formated one but instead of using it for windows install it went straight onto formatting the next partition and installing windows on that one, never happened before but the drive is working fine so far . Got another issue though, ide drives are failing to be noticed even in the bios and i have 80gb worth of work on one , any idea on how to get them working on windows or to check they are not dead?
