    Is this 745 Ultra Dead?

    Hey,

Just put a new hard drive in my sisters PC (WD 80GB SE), and had no problems. Booted off the Windows CD to start installation, and it prepared the drive, copied over a few files, then rebooted to start the installation process. During this time I walked away for a few minutes, and came back to a blue screen with a stop error (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). Thought nothing of it and hit the reset button. Except nothing happened. The screen went blank so it obviously had reset, but no beeps, nothing on the screen, and the D-Led on the back gives 4 red lights, where it would be initialising the CPU. Unplugged all the drives, and all the cards except the GFX card, reseated the RAM and GFX, and tried again. Nothing. Dead.

Reset the BIOS which also did sweet FA. As a last resort I pulled the BIOS battery out and left it for half an hour (PSU also unplugged). Put the battery back in, switch it on and.

    Nothing.

Is this board well and truly dead?

    Thanks

I know you have done this already but....
    1) Reset the CMOS, with the computer totally unplugged from power. Leave it for a while 15-30mins.
    2) Only boot with 1xRAM, Graphics, and CPU.

I wouldnt have thought that a knacked windows install could break a computer....

this STOP error is a driver issue, it can be any driver there is no specific culprits. I am getting this error randomly atm, a sys file causes it when a driver isnt talking right to it or something. Thats all i know so far sorry, im also looking for a solution.

This issue is also often caused by a bad, or undervolting PSU.

Friend had it. Changed is Qtec, and the problem has never come back !

Was suspecting it might be the crud PSU. I'll see if I can change it for something else and get back to you.

Changed the PSU, now running on the kitchen table out of the case. There's no life in it at all, except for the fans spinning up and the D-Led giving 4 red lights, which would indicate a CPU problem. Except the CPU looks fine still, and was fine until the Windows install error.

    Any ideas?

The does the CPU have any burnt pins on the bottom? and have you another system to test the parts in, as that would be far more useful that anything we could say really....

I know it's going to come down to swapping bits around. I'll see what I can do.

Right, It's not the CPU, RAM, Graphics card or board. I got it running again today,, seemingly by doing nothing (took off the heatsink, reapplied thermal paste, and it booted). Got into the XP setup screen, copied over some files, rebooted and now EXACTLY the same thing is happening as before. Switch it on and all i get is fans - no display, no beeps.

This is starting to get weird O_o.

It's out of the case as well so it's not a problem with it shorting out.
