GTX260 to recieve a boost?

Just went over to the custom PC site and saw this.

Could this, along with 55nm, beat the ATI cards? If so, it's a little bit late, but welcomed news none-the-less.

All this speculation is making it increasingly easier to hang-tight and wait to see what happens next month now.

Can't believe how many cards I have held off of buying now.....sooner or later the "right" card has to hit the market

Surely it'd just make more sense to knock a bit off the price of the 280GTX? Introducing another SKU is just going to confuse things even more!

...but the article doesn't mention a die shrink - just an increase in processing units...

Your right, it doesn't mention a die shrink but while reading it I was just assuming it.

Still, I would be shocked if they don't shrink it at the same time.

True b0redom, but who knows what they have planned for the 280 aswell. And nvidia like to confuse things, it wouldn't be them otherwise Who new a 8800gts and a 8800gts could have so much difference

well if it does make the gtx260 go that extra mile i think it would be a good deal, specially seeing as its cooler than the 4870

Well currently a 260 is a 280 with two units disabled.. this article suggests it'll move to just one unit disabled. But there's no scope in this method for doing anything for the 280.

If they sorted their manufacturing out (ha!) then they'd be able to offer it with no units disabled and just lower clock speeds, like ATI do with the 4850.
