With Nehalem coming out next year needing a new motherboard etc.
How long would a Q6600 be able to handle latest games as they come out provided I keep graphics card up to date.
Thanks

Stock, a long time.
Overclocked, a very long time.
Games don't really show a huge improvement after 2.4GHz at the moment, on a dual or quad core. As long as the gfx card is good there is no reason why a Q6600 would struggle.
about this long

long time...as staffsmike said games hardly push beyond 2.4ghz on dual...gpu is more important and will probably be changed before you change the cpu
how long is a piece of string? i think a q6600 will last quite a while becuase games are now more graphics bound since you can now off load almost all gaming tasks (except networking) to a dedicated card i would see a estimated life span of a q6600 to be at least 2 years if not more. its your graphics card that is going to be replaced more
i reckon another 18 months or so. when nehalem becomes mainstream games will start to require it
I could believe that if games NOW required dual core.
Programmers seem either too perplexed and/or too scared to add support for newer technologies outside of DirectX...........and with the way Physx is being added to gfx cards, I foresee CPU requirements becoming lesser (relatively), while the shift to more powerful gfx cards continue.
^^ you forgetting CPU bottle neck the VGA, look at the new 4870x2, they used it on top range quad core processor, and found it still bottled the VGA, so it shows CPUs going to be much more powerfull to fully use VGAs properly.
i think q6600 will last a decent time maybe 2 years, though i would get e8400 for gaming though
How long would an E4*** or E2*** at 3ghz last for gaming though??
Ages and ages. I wouldn't worry about longevity at all, particularly with the dirth of decent games.....
