Laptop Speaker - squealing like noise?
18months ago my dad bought an Acer Aspire 7110 laptop, despite it being fairly low spec it has worked flawlessly for him. Over the last few weeks however, a very high pitched squeal has started to develop.
Initially i put it down to crossed wires somewhere inside and we managed to narrow it down to the left hand corner of the laptop, below the keyboard. One other weird feature of this squeal is the fact that it only occurs when you hover your hand over the bottom left hand corner/speaker. The minute you push onto the frame it stops. It occurs fairly sporadically but recently it had been getting worse. Had the squeal occurred when you put pressure on the speaker/left hand corner id just put it down to crossed wires & dismantle it to investigate, but since it occurs when you hover your hand over, i cant imagine what could be causing it/how to stop it.
if you mute the speakers it does stop, so it is obviously linked to the speaker, but im not sure how to proceed. Can anyone offer any advice?
cheers guys

I assume that you've checked that it's not feedback via the microphone? I had that happen to me once and turning the mike off stopped it.
However, it sounds off the mark for the way you describe it.

heh, didn't even think of that. Muting/lowering the volume of the mic seems to fix it.
next step, is there any way to re-calibrate the mic to stop the feedback?
thanks

I don't think so - I found it a pain as I had to turn the mic on and off - but I can't think what I was using the mic for, it was a while ago.
I guess plugging in an external mic would disable the internal one. (or even plugging anything in to the mic socket).
