Best Intel chipset for an E8500 or Q9550 ?

I'm totaly out of the loop in regards to best chipsets/mobos for the price at the moment, planning an upgrade that may involve an Intel E8500 or Q9550 so need a mobo that can support either of them.

X38 mobo's seem quite expensive but do I need a minimum of an X38 to be able to properly support the new CPU's FSB ?.

All depends how much you want to spend.

Best (read most expensive) Intel Chipset is currently X48 but if you don't want to run crossfire then P45 will be perfectly good and a nice chunk cheaper.

But anything fom Asus, Gigabyte or DFI will probably do everything you need and more.

I was under the impression that you needed an x38/x48 to support the higher fsb of these cpu's ?.

The board I linked to supports FSBs up to 1600 E8500 and Q9550 are both only 1333 so they will be fine in fact they will work in a P35 board after possible BIOS updates to support the CPUs.

works straight out of the box on bios 1012 if your mobo shipped with that version.
