    Arrow E8400 Temperatures/Voltage

    Hey guys
I have a Asus P5QE mobo and a E8400, ive overclocked it to 3.6ghz by raising the voltage by 0.10 to about 1.25, and the fsb to 4mhz. It works well. But, i have a problem, the motherboard and coretempt report different temperatures, about 15c different. Ive turned the hsf which is fit on as hard as i can (artic freezer 7 pro), and the thermal paste is on the cpu. The HSF is not sucking heat from the gfx, but from the front of the case. Cooling is good btw

Now, according to coretemp it goes to about 75c on 100% load, and the mobo reports about 55c, 75 is VERY high. Judging by the air coming out from the back id say 55c is round about right, but which to trust :/

So far i think the mobo is right, but im still worried thats its too high. Without an overclock its round about the same, maybe 2 - 3 c less.

Also is 1.25v good, or shall i lower it to 1.2? Its only a 600mhz overclock

    thaks

    nel

    Re: E8400 Temperatures/Voltage

You should be able togo lower but it all depends on the chip. That temp is incorrect, afaik only intel boards read the temperature correctly(its a bios issue, not a chip) so is the heatsink hot? if not then dont worry, mine iudles at 40/43 and on laod with orthos is around 58C but if i stop it then the temp drops to 40 in about 4seconds. At 75C it would of shut off with the safety thing i think lol, i would guess your temps are around 30C approx probably less as i dont know how hot the 65nm equivilant ran at.

Heatsink top and side isnt hot, and touching the gfx give me an accurate reading of 70c, so easy to compare

    Re: E8400 Temperatures/Voltage

1.3625V is the intel spec safe maximum. 70°C is around the maximum temp too irrc. Alot of these chips show a large difference between cores so it's nothing to worry about. Monitor with coretemp. Your temps seem very high for that amount of voltage. Are you using the stock heatsink or another one? Hiow is the ventilation in your case? Make sure you have the latest motherboard bios too because this will affect how the board interprets the chip sensors.
