Pricing
A friend has asked me for help selling some of his hardware. I'm not really sure what it's worth so basically this is a price check thread.
There is a whole PC that has become redundant but I'm not sure if it's best to sell it as a whole system or just sell bits. All the equipment is about 18 months old (not been used for all that time though) and is in good condition (all been run at standard clocks too). All manuals for the motherboard and graphics card etc. are still available. The details are:
* Gigabyte 945PL GE-RH motherboard - Specification on gigabyte website
* Intel Pentium D 805 (2x1 MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB) 2.66 GHz with Intel stock cooler
* 1x1GB DDR2 Kingston Ram, unsure of speed, he thinks it's 533MHz, also has 2x1GB of Samsung DDR2 PC-6400 that would be willing to swap in place of the kingston stick if it were to increase the system value.
* Asus X1600 PRO (512MB PCI-E) - Specification on Asus website
* Hiper 530W Type M PSU
* 250 GB Western Digital WD2500KS Hard Drive
* Phillips DVD+-RW optical drive
* I can't remember the details of the case but it's an Antec midi tower
So either individual prices or as a whole system what do you think? My rough estimate was 'not a lot'. I'm not even sure if it's worth selling but thought it would be worth checking :D

Re: Pricing
its fit for an internet pc and not much else, £120 tops, maybe less if its a friend.

Re: Pricing
It's fit for a lot more than that. It would certainly be adeqaure for almost all office tasks, and I spend a lot of years doing image editing work on machines a lot less powerful than that. It's not a modern gaming machine or a graphics workstation, for sure, but most tasks it'll do just fine.
The problem is, given the cost of much more powerful machines, brand new, the valuation you put on it, GoNz0, is probably right. It's not that it won't do almost anything (modern high-end gaming and specialist usages excepted) that most people might need, it's that that's all it's worth to sell.
I'm convinced, personally, that an awful lot of system upgrades or replacements are because people want to, not because they need to. And that includes me. :embarrassed:

Re: Pricing
Yes I dont think you would get much for it tbh, buts its still very useful pc for kids, or useful connected to main tv for playing dvd's/XviD etc

Re: Pricing
Ok, well I think he originally paid around 360 to 380 for it new so somewhere between 100 and 120 would be pretty good. Might actually make the effort to sell. Where would you recommend selling it? ebay?

Re: Pricing
Advertise in ur local paper as a budget gaming machine. It'll be miles better than a lot of the onboard graphics kids have to use when gaming on parent's computers.
