    Wrong voltages?

    hello,

I have a 3XS system made by Scan, and have a question regarding RAM/CPU VCORE voltages.

I have an E6600 duo and corsair dominator 1066 RAM running at 1066. From what I've heard, the E6600 is meant to run at 1.28V. However, when I received the system (before I did my OC), it was at 1.35V. In addition, that's as low as the BIOS will let me set it.

Also, according to the net, 2.1V is what my RAm should be running at. However, it is set to 2.2V. I've contacted Scan support regarding this and I was told that it is correct, and it runs better this way. However, I am a bit more doubtful now, as I've just received some new memory (exactly the same type pair) and the label on the front says 2.1V.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Wrong voltages?

Each CPU will have a particular voltage that it is designed to run at if you Run Core Temp (down load here if you don't have it http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) it will give you a value for VID this is the voltage that Intel say the processor should be run at to ensure stability at stock clocks. Equally if you run CPUz it will tell you what the current voltage actually is. If your RAM says 2.1v on the sticks then don't put more through as this will invalidate the warranty with corsair.

    Re: Wrong voltages?

Assuming you're planning on putting them all in your current system, just knock the memory down to 2.1V for all 4 sticks. It should run at those volts (with the timings set as they should be, probably 5-5-5-15) and it might last longer if it runs at a lower voltage.

If you can get away with it without your system becoming unstable you could try 2.0V, though make sure it is stable by running Orthos or Prime95. Bear in mind that the Northbridge may need a touch more voltage if you're running 4 sticks of RAM.
