What graphics card for the Girlfriends new PC?

She has an AMD AM2 5000+ X2 CPU and only plays the SIMS 2!

What card would be quiet but yet powerful enough to play the SIMS 2 maxed out at 1680 x 1050 (Or whatever res EA have set this game to be able to run at)

PS It only has a 500W Tagan BZ PSU with 2 x 20A rails (36A combined) and I don't want to have to spend the earth on it. Under £80

A 3850 or 9600GT maybe, they'll still have a bit more power than neccessary though.

Surely a 9600GT is overkill for the Sims??

Friends of mine have a laptop with an 8600GT (or whatever the letters are called at the laptop versions of the 8600)
They play games like Assassins Creed and Bioshock on full details (17" screen though) so I suppose even one of those is well enough for the Sims 2 lolz

    Something cheap and cheerful maybe

They all be spending your money... as per usual...

Yet again, I have next to no idea how demanding sims 2 is, and having someone at Scan like you lots might be useful in later life...

I play the sims2 on my media pc in the living room, it plays fine with a Radeon HD3450 on a 42" plasma.

Re: What graphics card for the Girlfriends new PC?

    How about this?

Was on Today only for less than £80 yesterday so will probably be back on again soon enough. Or, put 30 odd quid towards a 9800GTX/+ for yourself and give her your card.

Re: What graphics card for the Girlfriends new PC?

You wont need any of the cards recommended above... a 7600GT will do the job nicely or even a used 7800GTX will do the job very well and will cost you peanuts

You dont need a powerful card tbh. My kids playing sims 2 with all addons with resolution 1024x768 with a Gforce 4 card (agp), admittedly could do with a new card well system tbh

I don't think the add on's make any/much difference to the graphics requirements at all... and yes I used to run Sims 2 on my GeForce4 4200TI 128MB DDR extremely well

One of those 3850 cards would be perfect, you also have to be ready for Sims 3, or so my sister keeps telling me!
