How does this work?

Well im planning on ordering some new ram and thought id order some little bits while im at it, i noticed this PSU cover http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=259101 question is, does it actually minimalise the sound from the PSU? mines not quiet and is the loudest thing in my case but its down to the fan pushing lots of air(and half of it is bouncing back on a plastic cover, poor design) so was looking at ways to make it quieter. ANyone have one of these? it doesnt have any dimensions etc.

Any help is appreciated .

watch the flash video - it appears to screw/bolt onto the outside of your PSU and deflect the sound coming out the back of it. Basically by the sound of it, its the same as your 'plastic cover' just with added foam.

well this power supply has a wierd design, inside (under the fan) it has a sheet of plastic half the size of the fan, i think they were hoping it would force the air down then to the left then right outside, instead it just reflects the air . Guess in short they were trying to route the air over the most important components, if they didnt try it would be very good

JUst looked at that video and it would seem to me its useless, my psu lets out hardly any air from the back grill(not good airflow design >.<) so the sound is from the actual fan pushing loads of air, i guess i will save my money .


Anyone have an idea on alternatives? if not ill look for some more compoenents for my pc .

Anything else that is worth while for a pc? cooling or addons are the most important , or just random things

xigmatec fans, super quiet and chuck a load of air around 120mm Xigmatek XSF-F1251 eXTreme Ultra Quiet Case Fan
- my mate has some, cant hear them atall..

one of these to position fan to blow on graphics - Zalman BR123 Overhead Fan Bracket - not sure if you have enough room between the graphics card and side of case though..

and one of these 2 Port eSATA PCI-E Controller - get an external drive caddy like this 3.5" SATA HDD with USB +eSATA ext caddy and then use it for backup - who wants to wait for usb to transfer it, which is painfully slow.. you'll need a SATA hard drive though - 500gb WDAAAKS.

are those the sort of things you are looking for..

or this perhaps - Corsair Dominator Airflow Fan

you could even replace all your thermal paste on graphics/CPU/NB chipset..

I'm out of ideas now, fifth gear is on and its distracting me..

well how does the zalman overhead thing actually work? i have a cm690 and have some room(will measure later tonight). DOnt think ill bother with the dominator(ram is cool enough) and dont need the caddy because i have no spare hard drives . Thanks for taking the time anyways .

Might get another 250gb WD drive or should i buy something else? possibly the 320gb versions , not sure yet as i might be killed if i spend to much lol. Cant use many more fans xD i think ive got like 7 case fans at this time and maybe space for 2 more(probably a bit overkill).

2 threads about it - so people do actually care about this place then..

and 7 fans isn't too many, i have 11 - including a 12" desk fan that gets used for heavy gaming sessions, a Radeon 9500 gets a wee bit toasty nowadays.
