    Pc3200 @ Pc2700?

    I've just bought 2 sticks of Twinmoss ram with winbond chips for a dual channel ram set-up! I can't work out how to run them at 3200 (400mhz) though as lame as that might sound!

    In bios I have the choice of 1:1 / 4:5 and set by spd.

    1:1 = pc2100 @ 266mhz
    4:5 = pc2700 @ 333mhz
    By set spd = 333mhz too

    If I boot up with "Set by spd" it says "running in DDR400 specification", but the dram frequency is only @ 166mhz ie pc2700.

    My cpu is a 3.06ghz P4 HT 533fsb
    My mobo is the Abit Is7-e

    Surely there must be a way for it to work @ 200mhz? Ie pc3200 as the motherboard supports 533/800 cpus and 3200 ram?

    In sandra Im getting around 3200/3200....

    Cheers in advance, Ethos

    unless you are running at more than 200mhz speeds i dont think the board gives you the option.

    Well your FSB is 133x4=533mhz. So setting...

    1:1 your RAM is running at 133x2=266mhz PC2100
    4:5 your RAM is running at 166x2=333mhz PC2700
    * 3:2 you RAM would be running at 200x2=400mhz PC3200 *

    It's 3:2 that you need when using 533FSB, the latest BIOS may help otherwise DDR400 may only be usable at 800FSB. The ratios there would be ... 1:1 (RAM equal FSB minus QDR) 200x2=400mhz PC3200.

    If you o/c your FSB to 160x4=640mhz (20%) that would mean your 4:5 setting would be at PC3200 speed but then your P4 3.06ghz and cooling would need to be capable of 3.67ghz which is probably asking a bit much ... maybe exchange for a 2.8ghz 533FSB CPU LOL! Anyway if you did want to o/c your FSB a bit you'd get closer to using the RAM's rated speed.
