Re: Samsung HD103UJ problem with SATA
Hi,
Sorry for the delayed response. I only got the email today telling me there had been a post.
The bios link they sent me was for FKu.
You should be able to get it from the web site, but if you have a problem, pm me with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

Hi skorpyo,
I'm no expert on this drive, but as no-one else has stepped forward, I will try to help if I can.
Your motherboard supports 4 sata 11 3.0GB/s drives as you say, so you should be able to use this drive without any problems.
So....it must be something simple.
Your motherboard does not support hot plug, so you must have the drive installed and connected correctly from boot up.
Have you connected the data cable AND the power supply cable correctly?
When the PC has booted and running, if you unplug the power cable can you hear the drive stop spinning?
Does the drive appear listed on the screen at all when booting the computer and if so, does it show the size?
How many drives do you have connected and does one already have the operating system on it.

SATA Problems with GA-7n400 Pro 2
Hi Everyone I have the FKu bios as well and have found it fixes fixes the sata 100%, however it costs you the ata raid chipset, at most it will give you 1 drive with no raid bios only atapi, you cannot boot some utility disks, the system is unstable and crashes when you run windows update, I am hoping to find out if anyone else has these issues or any other issues with the new bios?
Re: Samsung HD103UJ problem with SATA

Re: Samsung HD103UJ problem with SATA
Hey everyone, i went through a lot of issues with the silicon image 3112 chipset, and you should find if you boot the os and connect the drive you will have full use of the drive, as the problem with the chipset is silicon image updated the firmware for add on cards using it however the motherboard manufacturers mostly havnt and it cannot address a hard drive over 500gb, i think it was off memory, and i dont know forsure with this drive, however all seagate drives will revert to sata 1 mode if sata 2 negoation fails automaticially, even so, yes sata 2 adds NCQ however it isnt a huge speed jump. if anyone has issues with this on a GA-7n400 pro 2 board i have a beta driver from gigabyte if they want to try it. i wasnt happy with it though

I have just bought one of these drives and my bios does not recognise it.
I have a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro motherboard which runs 1.5Gb SATA.
I have read all the previous posts and tried everything they say.
When I boot up, after seeing my 250Gb WD sata drive, it sees and lists the Samsung drive next, but then hangs before indicating the size. the cursor just flashes and stays there.
If I leave the Samsung powered up but unplug the sata cable until it passes that point, then plug the sata cable in, (it has hot plug) it carries on booting up and the drive is in 'my computer' as normal. I have even formatted it and partitioned it.
When I reboot, it still just hangs at the same spot again.
I have tried jumpers, and also reset the speed to 1.5Gb (as that is the speed of my MoBo sata) using the Samsung ES Tool. This told me I had successfully changed it to 1.5Gb.
Still the bios doesn't see the drive. I'm at the end of my rope now and am searching my toolbox for the big hammer........please help me!!!!
This drive is replacing an existing Maxtor 250Gb drive that has died.
I've emailed Samsung and they didn't bother replying.

Hi Dear friends and
Dear frostyboy,
the results of flashing the bios is as follow. now i have a new problem.
i couldn't get any good response like before, so i preferred to flash it to the last bios that i had. 7n400p2.f11 since my board is GA-7N400 Pro2 (rev. 1.x)
but i faced this error. bios id error!!!
after that i opened the dual bios (f8 in setting) that my motherboard supports.
i tried to use the backup bios but i saw the similar response, bios id error!!!
also when i open the setting i see a confusing thing, i didn't have such icon in the booting priority part (floppy, CD, HDD) before all of these options there is another option (Silicon.../Raid...) you can see in the picture.
it seems my motherboard has upgraded itself !!! to the upper version (GA-7N400 Pro2 (rev. 2.x)
since when i flash the bios with one of the bios in its family (such as 7n400p2.fb) it accepts without error but it has problem in boot like before. the acceptance without error is so confusing.
now i couldn't do anything. please help me. i am really in danger!
there are 4 pictures that may be useful.
please kindly download them.
ifile.it/p64mrkv/4.zip
also the other pictures
first is the setting for 2.x the current setting that i see as the above picture i showed
and the second is for 1.x the proper setting for my motherboard

Re: Samsung HD103UJ problem with SATA
Hi Panjeh,
It is very difficult to understand what you mean as you say so much.
The 4 pictures at ifile.it/p64mrkv/4.zip are not available at the moment as their server is down but I have looked at the other two.
This bios is obviously for a rev2 motherboard, but I THINK it should still work.
Did you use the Q Flash utility on the setup screen?
My settings are as follows:-
On the Advanced Bios Feature screen.
If you flash the bios from a floppy drive, you need to set the 'Boot up floppy seek' to ENABLED
SCSI/RAID Cntlr boot order [press enter].......yes press enter for the next screen
set to:-
1. Silicon Image Mass Storage Cont
2. ITE1Raid Controller
On the 'Integrated Peripherals' screen
set the 'Serial ATA function' to BASE
set the 'GigaRaid Function' to ATA
After this you should be able to use the 7n4p2-2 bios I sent you.
If all things fail, you must use the bios disc you got with the computer to set it back as it was before.
I will keep watching for a reply and keep trying to see your pictures.
.....frostyboy.....
EDIT...I now got the pictures and that is fine. That is the same as my screen.
Bios type is FKu
If this does not work, it must be because you are rev1. motherboard.
If all this fails, contact Gigabyte and ask for FKu bios for rev1.
