Who wants to build me a PC! :)

    Hello all,

I have a friend who has around £550 and wants a new pc. Now I dont have time to build it for him and I have been browsing the usual websites for pre-built machines and ebay for some of the pre-built machines but from what I can see they all give you one good component and then slack off on the rest. Now I was wondering which of you kindly gentlemen would like to make a few bob and build a new gaming rig for my friend.

Im sure some of you do this for a living anyway so you could merely point me in the right direction.

He doesnt need keyboard mouse or monitor and so it would just be case + insides.

I would say a cheap quad will do, as good a mobo as money can afford, only 2gb of decent ram a corsair 520hx psu. Now im not upto scratch on gfx cards at the mo as I have an evga 8800gts from a while back so any recommendations would be welcome.

A decent cooler is a must aswell and if the said gentleman can overclock to a small degree then that would be welcome!

    Thanks for your time

    Tom

Wrong forum for asking what to buy

As for getting someone to build it... try asking at local computer stores. For a few quid.. maybe £30-50, you'll get someone that knows what they're doing and does it for a living...

you'll get a bit of backup if something goes wrong too... if one of us bodged something, then a humble apology is all you will get off some... if a shop bodges it then its 'oops need to get another'

Good point TAKTAK... I'd forgotten about that.

That with P5Q PRo instead of ip35 and Antec 300 instead of CM-690. Saves you £25 and then we can be twins

Re: Who wants to build me a PC! :)

Lol well it depends what you like in a case. The antec 300 has good cooling but little else, it's very basic afaik. The coolermaster has fairly decent drive management, good cable management and excellent cooling options. Also manages to be very quiet if you use than fan arrangement options carefully.

The mobo's are open to discussion I guess, the IP-35 PRO is a very good board to be overclocking with, lots of nice touches to help you get the best from it. The P5Q is newer and has a few extra features but they are genereally not very useful features.

Try YoYotech or pcspecalist if he must have it built for him.

Re: Who wants to build me a PC! :)

I'd wait a couple of months to see what Intel and AMD have to offer in their new processor ranges, thats what I'm going to do.

    Edit:Or just order this

Re: Who wants to build me a PC! :)

But it's only worth wating a few months if you're going for top-end components... say the ones that already cost £600, so will come down when Nehalem and the AMD one (can't remember name of it offhand) as they are starting at that sort of price initially.

If you're only going to spend £400-600 on a computer (or less, as the case may be) you're hardly going to want to wait a few months to spend all of that on one component.

    Hi Mike

Is it not a pain with the power supply at the bottom ( coolermaster) my antec 900 is a nightmare or am I doin something wrong. The power cable 'stradles the graphic cards

    Any thoughts

Re: Who wants to build me a PC! :)

Like the antec P182 the coolermaster routes it's cables behind the motherboard tray allowing you the best cable management possible. It's not quite as good as Antec's I don't think but it works all the same.

Lightbulb Re: Who wants to build me a PC! :)

It's better if the motherboard tray/case have cut-out sections for routing cables of course, but it's usually possible to route them out of the way anyway, with good cable tidying

The biggest (potential) problem with cases in which the PSU fits at the bottom, is making sure you have/buy a PSU with cables long enough to reach the optical drive(s).
For that reason, it's sometimes necessary to put optical drive(s) in the lower drive bay(s), rather than in the top bay(s) - where they usually are.
